Tuffy Stone is a World Record-breaking champion pitmaster, a former Marine, a classically-trained chef, an acclaimed caterer, and an occasional reality television star. Dubbed “The Professor,” Tuffy’s legendary precision and obsession with the science of smoke make him one of the most influential people in barbecue. In the 13 years since he founded Cool Smoke Barbecue, the team has won hundreds of trophies including more than 40 Grand Championships and five World Grand Championships. Cool Smoke is the only team in history to have won the prestigious Jack Daniel’s Barbecue World Championship back to back and the only team to have won it three times, doing so in 2013, 2015, and 2016. perplexed by some of the negative reviews. Full disclosure I am a friend of Tuffy's and Meathead's (got a shout out in both books) How many times can you get the same four recipes? Some dont like the goose pastrami, fine. some may... But to murder a book that has the depth of knowledge and creative non ghost written recipes is not really to fair. What about the 16 rubs, 20 sauces? Spice rubbed brisket? Smoked Brisket Chili? Coffee Rubbed Cowboy Steaks? Rack of Lamb? How about the peach and blueberry crisp. The first chapters explaining smoke fuel and fire are priceless. I'd write more but Im cooking the salisbury steak with shitake mushroom gravy.

This is an excellent book for those wanting to learn from another expert. It's not a replica of some of the more comprehensive books from Meathead and others, but it's so helpful in learning Tuffy's techniques, particularly when it comes to rubs and some out of the ordinary recipes. Much of the book is focused on recipes, but there's only so much on basics that you can absorb, and for those looking for that, they might be better covered elsewhere. The images are absolutely stunning, better than anything I've ever seen. It's a great 2rd book to buy for your library. Franklin or Meathead would be number 1 and 2.

This is a BBQ book that you can actually just pick up and read. Having Steven Raichlen do the intro was a nice bonus ('Project Smoke' is another great book). I've already learned a few new things about keeping moisture in the smoker and making adjustments on the fly. Notably, some of these recipes have nothing to do with firing up a smoker. You might think that is like being invited to a BBQ and getting served hot dogs / hamburgers... that is a wiener roast not a BBQ. However, in this case, I am good with that - there are some great grilling ideas (for weeknights) and plenty of accompaniments.

Really liked the variety of recipes. Of course the typical BBQ but also maybe some recipes to take the average pitmaster into other areas of cooking and challenging their cooking abilities. Truly dont get the bad reviews whatsoever. Ive made ribs, pork and brisket a thousand times, so thanks Tuffy for going outside the box on other recipes

The photos in this cookbook are beautiful. If it’s true you eat first with your eyes than yum! The recipes deliver too! Made the smoked paprika Mac and cheese and the dill coleslaw. Both full of flavor and nice twists on classics. Looking forward to making more. We bought one as a gift as well.

Excellent! This cookbook has substance. After receiving my copy, I bought several more to give as gifts. A must have for anyone who enjoys cooking.

I learned about this cookbook from my local newspaper. I’ve tried several different recipes and have enjoyed each one. The recipes are easy to follow, with detailed information for preparing what looks like complicated meats.I look forward to trying some of the deserts.

I'm learning Portuguese in order to converse with my boyfriend and (more importantly) his Portuguese-only speaking mother. This book is an excellent and fun resource for language learning! The exercises are easy, engaging, and clear, and teach basic Portuguese grammar in a logical way. It also includes flashcards and sticky labels, so that you can label various items around your house with the appropriate Portuguese word (and correct pronunciation) I bought this to supplement my learning with Pimsleur and wish that I had bought it much, much sooner. If you're in doubt, definitely purchase this book!! You won't regret it.

This workbook really brings me back to the days of my childhood where I could just sit and learn by doing activities, practicing vocabulary, and putting together sentences. this workbook really simplifies learning basic Portuguese (including, but not limited to, Brazilian Portuguese) and makes it fun. The software included is also great for brushing up on more common words, phrases, and numbers; the software lessons are short and include a mix of audio and visual matching activities. While this workbook is by no means perfect, it has been my favorite source for learning the basics of Portuguese and keeps me engaged.

This book has some good basic vocabulary that could be useful for traveling. It also includes some conjugation. I would like to see more conjugation. I gave it 3 stars because the pronunciation is a mix between Portuguese from Portugal and Portuguese from Brasil. I saw the picture on the front cover (Christ statue in Brasil), and assumed they would teach the Brasilian accent. Maybe it is an accent used in one of the towns of Brasil, I'm not sure.

The best book for someone who doesn't have any knowledge of the Portuguese language.

The front jacket matter includes the following comment that lays out the essence of this work: "Misconceptions, misunderstandings, and flawed facts finally get the heave-ho in this humorous, downright humiliating book of reeducation based on the phenomenal British best-seller." Or, as the author puts it (page xix): "This book is for the people who know they don't know very much. It contains hundreds of things that the average person doesn't know."Let's get to the book, then. One nice way of giving the reader a sense of what's involved is simply to note some of the questions and answers. Enough to give a taste, not enough to spoil reading the book."What speed does light travel at?" (Pages 56-57) It depends. In a vaccum, 186,282 miles per second. In 2000, a team at Harvard University managed to stop light, shining it into a bec (not clear what that is!) of the element rubidium. "Where do most tigers live?" (Pages 66-67) In the United States! These are captive animals. In the wild, numbers are dropping dramatically. "Where do camels come from?" (Pages 93-94) North America. Here's a new one for me (among others): "What Edison invention do English speakers use every day?" (Page 131-132) According to the book (and this is one on me), the word "Hello" was an Edisonian invention."What rhymes with orange?" (Pages 208-209) Orange is a dread word for poets. According to this volume, there are two words--Blorenge and Gorringe, both of which are proper nouns.So, there you are. A lot of fun. I don't pretend to know if all the answers to the questions posed are correct, but it's quite enjoyable to run through the questions and test your knowledge against the answers provided in the book.

Great read. This book is filled to the brim with interesting facts, each of which are self-contained and covered in 1-2 pages, which is the perfect length. It's quick enough to pick up and read for a few minutes at a time, but also long enough to give a fairly good explanation of the facts it's laying out.A lot of the book is spent challenging things most people accept as fact (do goldfish really have a 3 second memory? did Marie Antoinette really say "let them eat cake?" are you sure the Earth only has one moon?), or asking interesting questions with surprising answers (what color is water? what does the moon smell like?). If any of those examples I just listed interested you, then by all means give this book a whirl.

This is one amazing book. You don't want to put it down. As you read it, you wish there was someone standing nearby so you could share what you just read. I even had to pick up the phone and call my son to relate a section of the book right after reading. Forget what you know or think you know and open your eyes - you will start to question everything you think you know. You think you are well educated until this book throws into question what you know and goes about showing you why you are wrong. Myth buster. Buy it for yourself, buy it for friends, give it as a gift, or share your copy. Worth twice what it costs.

Given as a gift to an avid reader, keeper of facts big or small, obscure or broadly known, and self proclaimed junkie for "nickel knowledge" -the kind of stuff good for dinner parties and wowing grandchildren - who says this book as a gift was great fun and a perfect pick. (Whew!)

Bought for my 15 year old avid reader daughter. This was an Amazon suggestion after I bought my daughter the book “What If...” She loves it and has been reading excerpts from it since she unwrapped it.

Seemed to be a very interesting book. Filled with seldom know facts. Then the authors infuse their Catholic beliefs about Mary being a goddess and hokey myths trying to say the Bible is inaccurate. Throws a shadow of doubt as to the facts of all other chapters.

Fun read with some surprising revelations! What is nice...is this isn't the type of book you have to sit and read from front to back. I just sit for a few minutes...peruse a few pages, then I can pick it up at another time and restart anyplace in the book.

I learned a lot of interesting facts about things that I thought I already knew. This book also destroyed many beliefs held since childhood. Who knew that Rudolf the Red Nosed Deindeer was really a female? Many more myths like that are investigated and explained in this fascinating book.

Very well-documented and factual. Interest level is very consistent throughout, and for such diverse topic material, that is a big accomplishment. It it only had an index, this book could become a very useful and entertaining reference work as well.
