I bought this book as a compliment to Feng Shui Your Life: Second Edition by Jayme Barret since we are relocating again, to a townhome this time (a hop, skip and a jump to work). Boy is this book a complete anti-thesis, polar opposite or [insert-whatever-you-want-to-use-to-describe-being-the-complete-opposite-phrase-here] of Jayme's book. Where as Feng Shui Your Life: Second Edition engages the practice in an entirely new-age perspective and emphasizing on feng-shui "cures" (i.e. charms, talisman, luck, symbolism, etc.) and the bagua map, i.e. what I came to understand as the "Black Hat Tantric Buddhism" school of feng-shui, or BTB, McCandless engages the art of feng-shui from a more traditional and pragmatic approach: the study of the environment and how it affects people. No bagua maps (although she incorporates the traditional feng-shui compass in interior arrangements in later chapters) or new-age crapola. In fact, McCandless starts out by dispelling feng-shui "cures", associated with BTB feng-shui.I like the fact that this book is extremely easy to read and straight to the point. I enjoy McCandless' pragmatic style and her candidness at dispelling the BS (i.e. new-age crapola, such as hanging crystal spheres [which Jayme heavily emphasizes], mirrors and other attributes) that is associated with modern/Westernized BTB branch of feng-shui. It dives into the history of feng-shui and engages the art of feng-shui from a common sense approach:-- You design your environment so that it makes you feel secure and happy. If you are happy, then it will follow you through every other aspect of your day/life. --Have you ever awaken to an incredible mood that followed you to work or school? So incredible that it rubs off to your colleagues (you'd greet folks when you normally don't and being totally out of character)? So incredible that your body is tingling with euphoria stemming from this great mood? This book strive to induce that feeling through environmental conscientiousness, arrangements and engagements. That is it! No redirecting mystical energy, increasing luck or barraging your living quarters with lame feng-shui marketing trinkets to "energize" the room. There are also short segments in every chapter on dispelling common feng-shui misconception and myths. The author goes into lengthy detail explaining their probable origin and why they are myths and should be regarded as no more than such; take a look at the following examples McCandless dispels:1.) "It is bad to live at the end of a long narrow street or cul-de-sac because the energy will surge into your household like a sharp arrow, negatively impacting your life." Jayme mentioned this in her book with "cures", such as placing a gazing ball near the entrance door to "deflect" the surging negative energy flow and counteract its effects)2.) "It is good luck to paint your front entrance door red" (funny in Jayme's book, there's a picture depicting a bright red wooden door). As I read through these mythbusters, I couldn't help but wonder if the author is taking direct aim at Jayme's book because a large chunk of the "cures" suggested in Feng Shui Your Life: Second Edition are dispelled by McCandless.3.) "If your wealth/prosperity energy center is a bathroom, you could be flushing or draining your wealth away!" Jayme's cure solution to: add a water fountain running 24/7, hang a crystal ball, add a night light and leave it on 24/7 or my personal favorite, add plants - they can be artificial or real! How can an artificial man-made plant energize ANYTHING? If anything, it can add appeal to the visual sensors if arranged correctly, but energize? Come'on now, you trying to sell me snake oil? McCandless said that the bathroom is just like any room. As long as it is kept clean and tidy, it will be welcoming - and that's all that matter. If you feel welcomed, you will be affected positively in your subconscience. McCandless kicks it up a notch and finishes this mythbuster segment with: the only way to "drain your wealth away" is to literally empty your wallet into the toilet bowl and flush it down the drain, lol.Don't get me wrong, Feng Shui Your Life: Second Edition is a great book on reducing clutter and for ideas on how to decorate different areas of your home that creates the feeling of camaraderie or catharsis, which is feng-shui in itself. It is also filled with colorful photos cover to cover, a stark contrast to McCandless' book which is entirely black and white with crappy illustrations laden with JPEG artifacts. Jayme's approach to feng-shui is different and her new-age perspective isn't really for me. You can read my review on it for more details.

There are at least a dozen books about feng shui on my bookcase. Each expert has their own opinions and to be honest I was ready to give up because the "must dos" were different and contradicted each other. Then I found Cathleen McCandless' book and wow what a difference! The explanations of why the remedies of the past were used and how they may not be applicable to modern western living were such a help. Her common sense approach is balanced by the obvious respect that she has for the practice and history of feng shui. It's well written and easy to follow. There are some immediate - inexpensive suggestions that can help you get started making positive changes right away. If you were like me, interested but confused, I would highly recommend giving Feng Shui That Makes Sense a chance.

This book is a must read for anyone remotely interested in feng shui. I've done years of informal research into feng shui because its practicality fascinates me. This is by far my favorite book on the subject. There is a lot of misinformation out there that converts well-meaning people into superstitious and paranoid interior decorators (including me at some points, unfortunately). The effect is counterintuitive to what feng shui is all about, which is living in an environment that optimizes your health. This book addresses all the myths that I've come across and re-grounds you in the common sense and natural science that the practice is based on. It also puts feng shui practices into historical context, bringing it to life in important ways. Lastly the author gives really interesting, incredible (and sometimes comical) examples from her experience as a consultant. In addition to helping me nurture my home with more confidence, I can now better explain some of my interior decorating decisions to my husband in a way that appeals to his reason. Two thumbs up!

So this may be a long review so I apologize because I don't often feel so moved to review a book as I do this one. Over the years my husband and I have lived in many rentals across the country due to frequent moving and a horrible home buying experience in our 20's. Well faced with yet another move and my desire to no longer live in condos, apartments or townhouses (shared walls and bad neighbors are to common for us) we decided to try purchasing again.I have read many books in the past on Feng Shui and Vaatsu in desperate attempts to create balance when our options were limited and have to say I gave up on it a decade ago. Home buying terrifies me after our one and only home purchase turned into a 15 year nightmare of which we only lived in the house 3 years of so I decided to once again look at ways to try and make sure we purchased a comfortable home. This book was completely different. She doesn't focus on placing fountains and knick knacks all over the place to bring good luck which I appreciated immediately because I cannot stand to much clutter. Her approach is about flow and comfort. There is no hanging crystals because the front door faces the wrong direction or crazy math formulas to find out my bedroom needs to be in the south west corner because lets face it when buying a home not everything can be in the perfect location and direction for my personal horoscope (yes I have read books like that). She explains very clearly about balancing yin and yang in a way that is not only easy to understand but easy to achieve. She dispels a lot of superstitions and myths and gives more rational explanations as to why you should avoid something's and how to change things in inexpensive ways. I wish she had more books on the market than just this one because I would read them all.

Amazon.com Review

This is a "facts ma'am, nothing but the facts" examination of how Microsoft works, both internally, and in the marketplace. Unlike the raft of gossipy Bill-bios or sardonic and shrill pro- or anti-screeds, this book is focused clearly (if sometimes ploddingly) on one central question: the relationship between business strategies and software development. And, as Microsoft becomes increasingly focused on the Internet, it is essential reading not just for software companies, but for all Internet companies as well. Highly Recommended.

From Publishers Weekly

The authors of this surprisingly candid report interviewed 38 Microsoft employees, including chairman and CEO Bill Gates, other top executives, middle managers and software developers, and they were also given access to internal documents and project data. They provide a detailed look at how the software giant develops new products, competes and strives to improve its operations. Seven key strategies central to Microsoft's approach are identified, among them: continually improve products incrementally, with direct input from customers during the development process; organize small teams of overlapping specialists who formally share tasks; aggressively target emerging mass markets. Microsoft has retained much of its loosely structured, small-team culture, and this study helps to explain how the company is able to do so while designing and manufacturing tremendously complicated products. Although some chapters are targeted to people familiar with personal computer software, this pragmatic handbook provides instructive lessons for firms and managers in many industries. Cusumano teaches management of technology at MIT; Selby teaches information and computer science at UC-Irvine. Author tour. Copyright 1995 Reed Business Information, Inc.

I really enjoyed the book. It explained the Microsoft approach to maketing, sales and engineering of their products and services. The Authors apparently really captured the essence of the "Microsoft Way" by their presence in the Microsoft environment. On the positive side, the Authors really went into considerable detail about how Microsoft approaches the marketing, sales and engineering of its products and services. As a software professional, I was particularly interested in the description of the Microsoft software engineering process and launch of its software products. On the negative side, the Microsoft approach to building software was predated by Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) by 10 years. The Authors made no comparison of the Microsoft engineering practices with those of other, successful software engineering organizations. Having worked at DEC from 1973 to 1985, I would say that 80% to 90% of the software engineering processes and practices described in the book were performed as common, engineering best practices by those DEC software projects that built the VMS operating system and its layered products including VAX Fortran, Vax Cobol, VAX Ada, etc. The book did not explicitly state by I venture that Dave Cutler, Senior Technical Fellow at Microsoft, may be responsible for porting these engineering best practices from DEC to Microsoft when he joined Microsoft in 1988. Dave is a first class software professional, a very gifted software engineer and manager - maybe one of the best in software engineering!!Bottom-Line: I highly recommend the book for reading by software professionals including software managers, software engineers, marketers and sales professionals. It is an excellent book. My major criticism of the book is that it needs to be updated to reflect current best practices at Microsoft. [Note: I was the VAX COBOL Project Leader from 1978 to 1982.]

Let me start by saying that the only thing I regret about this book is that it's more than ten years old. Michael Cusumano and Richard Selby did a very professional and objective deep study about Microsoft in various dimensions: history, culture, organization, management, process, people. Of particular interest is the daily build process, the testing organization and process and the project structure. If you are a Software Engineer like myself, you are just going to love this book!

This book as the title indicates is suppose to show some of the "secrets" that lead to Microsoft's success in dominating the computer world. The writing was very long, boring, and at times tedious with no passion or emotion. It reads like a textbook analysis on how the programmers and developers put together Windows and Office from determining features to debugging and testing. The author doesn't cover business tactics and market strategies even when addressing the company's future. The first couple chapters seems lifted straight from the company 10Q reports. Covering the company's organizations and job titles and their responsibilities and background requirements. This book is well researched but not well written. In many cases, reading the book had a deja vu feel to it because the information was restated many times through out the chapters. At the time of the writing, Win95 and BOB were coming out and they were starting work on Win98 and WinME. There are many things that were incomplete. There was little info regarding Steve Balmer who would later take over Microsoft after Gate leaves. The errors and mistakes in the post mortem should have improved the quality of the software Microsoft makes but with little documentation and high turn over rate; the company is doom to making the same mistakes over and over again. No documentation of the features and how the software works is a real problem for them. WinME and now Vista shows that the problems they had in 1995 is still rampant today. No mention of MSNBC that was starting up at that time. I now at least have an idea of what they were thinking. I recommend only the last few chapters after three. The book only mention some the MS bad behavior. No documentation; weak debugging and testing practices; weak customer service. Granted, they are a company and can't give away industrial secrets but what I came a way with is something of an overwritten prospective for a stock that shows nothing special about working for Microsoft.

The Kindle addition of this book is terrible. There are a million typos. For instance the word "faces" is misspelled as "feces". Ugh, big difference. I was reading this for an Author presentation on Theodore Taylor for a fifth grade class. The Cay is a wonderful book written by this author, The Boy Who Could Fly Without a Motor was definitely a miss for T.T.

The year is 1935. The setting: a small, rocky island off the coast of California , home to a lighthouse, a family of three, a dog named Smacks. The main character, Jon Jeffers, is nine, stuck on the island with his mother, Mabel, and his father, James, a member of the U.S. Coast Guard and temporary lighthouse keeper.Jon is lonely-so lonely that he attempts to contact someone (using telepathy) who can help him learn to "body fly." That way he could fly across the waves and visit the mainland anytime he wanted. What he ends up doing is attracting the attention of a grumpy, long-dead Chinese magician named Ling Wu. Jon asks Ling Wu to teach him how to levitate. Ling Wu agrees, but makes Jon promise that he won't tell anyone the secret (and threatens to boil Jon in dragon's bile, stuff flaming straw up his nose, turn his ears into goat's horns, and nail his toes to a shark's back) if he does. Jon promises. After much trial and error-and a crash into his bedroom furniture---Jon learns to soar. He disobeys Ling Wu's orders not to fly a far distance at first and almost ends up in the ocean. His disobedience also causes his powers of levitation to go haywire. He begins to levitate at odd moments---and in front of his parents.Eventually the truth comes out. Jon is suddenly thrust into the lime light. The military becomes involved, as does President Roosevelt. Jon is a worldwide flying sensation. The problem is, he can't control it, and must walk around weighted down with paint buckets lest he fly into the atmosphere. The solution, thanks to Ling Wu, brings this touching, funny, satisfying, story full circle.Jon is a likeable character that upper elementary and middle grade readers will readily identify with. The story is ripe with ideas to explore: Jon's loneliness, his tenacious efforts to make his dream come true, his attempts to keep his word despite tremendous pressure not to.Reviewed by the Education Oasis Staff

I like to read books about people who can fly. :) This one sucked, though. It had kid-book logic that adults think is good for kids, but is actually just sort of the literary equivalent of baby talk.

The Green Teen- Top 5 Ways to Save the World!I just finished reading, The Green Teen by Jenn Savedge. You can find her hiding out at [...] Her site states that she " is a full-time mom, environmentalist, and author who researches and writes about the two topics that are closest to her heart: children and the environment. As a former park ranger for the National Park Service, Jenn traveled the U.S., learning about the environment in some this country's most breath-taking wild places. She currently resides with her husband and daughters in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia."Her two passions filled the entire book! The Green Teen was totally focused on educating the teens on all the environmental buzz words. Her fun writing style will grab the attention of any teen ( I know because I have two) and explain to them how they can take on such issues such as "What can I do about Global Warming, Air Pollution, Deforestation, Sweatshops and Saving the Planet".She breaks it down in her Top 5 Ways! Review

"I have long been a believer in and practitioner of trigger point therapy. I certainly recommend this book to the general public and health care practitioners. It is truly an excellent resource and provides the tools that induce self-healing and empowerment."―Bernie S. Siegel, MD, author of Love, Medicine, and Miracles and Prescriptions for Living and former student of Janet Travell, MD, author of Travell & Simons’ Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction: The Trigger Point Manual "This is … a well-organized, easy-to-use handbook that will indeed help sufferers of myofascial pain learn to treat themselves with effective self-massage techniques. The detail and clarity of the book’s format will also make it invaluable to pain physicians who want to be able to teach their patients useful, simple strategies to manage soft tissue pain problems." ―Joseph F. Audette, MD, instructor at Harvard Medical School and director of Outpatient Pain Services at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Medford, MA "This is a useful book for anyone in chronic pain. There are few resources like this one, which empowers the reader to understand the problem and offers the tools to manage it. The approach to managing pain described in this book will help many take control of a significant part of their health and will become a valuable lifelong reference." ―Scott M. Fishman, MD, chief of the Division of Pain Medicine in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the University of California, Davis and author of The War on Pain "As a medical doctor who has been challenged by patients experiencing chronic pain, including those suffering from long-standing cases of fibromyalgia, I appreciate a safe solution for their problem. I believe this book, revealing that trigger point therapy may safely relieve chronic pain, should be in the hands of every doctor." ―Terry Shepherd Friedmann, MD, author of Freedom Through Health "Trigger point massage therapy may be the most effective treatment known for a wide variety of pain problems, including fibromyalgia and myofascial pain syndrome." ―C. Norman Shealy, MD, PhD, founding president of the American Holistic Medical Association and author of The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Healing Remedies "This must-have book gives practical methods for dealing with chronic pain in a format that is easy to use, and it works! I’m a believer!" ―Jo Ann Gillaspy, MS, RN, editor of The Nephrology Resource Directory "Properly used, the information in the Davies’s book should enable many people with myofascial trigger point disorders to participate effectively in treating their conditions. The book should be especially useful to those who do not have ready access to a practitioner familiar with the diagnosis and treatment of these common muscular problems." ―Michael D. Reynolds, MD, rheumatologist "The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook is a welcome and timely addition to the worlds of personal wellness, pain relief, and self-care. The author creates a highly effective form of pain therapy that anyone can learn. This book is a valuable contribution to the field of self-applied therapeutic bodywork." ―Robert K. King, founder and president of the Chicago School of Massage Therapy "As a chiropractor for twelve years and an instructor of trigger point therapy at the Utah College of Massage Therapy for ten years, I found the Davies’ book very accurate and complete. The graphics and illustrations make it easy to show patients and clients ways to improve quality of life. I believe the book will be a valuable asset to all health care practitioners who use trigger point therapy." ―David B. Thomson, DC, instructor at the Utah College of Massage Therapy "I have personally benefited from the therapeutic effects of trigger point massage and I believe it deserves official recognition in the medical world. I hope physicians will study these self-treatment techniques and recommend them to their patients." ―Rose Marie Hackett, DO, osteopathic physician and radiologist

I wanted to buy a wall chart, but this book was cheaper and it has all the trigger points shown on the chart in addition to exercises focused on reliving particular areas of pain.

I was ALWAYS a very fit woman even in my 40's. Nothing extreme, just always moving & energetic, great diet, etc. Until I turned 41 - my back started giving me trouble. Fast forward to me going to PT to get my back in better shape in Fall 2012. Then late Dec 2012 - PT is great until one rushed day when she stretched my right leg too far too fast. Didn't feel like anything until 2 hrs later, OMG, the pain in the sole of my right foot & low back! I couldn't walk without a limp. I had never had foot pain before, ever. I couldn't sit on anything soft because of the pain it would cause my low back.It got worse. I had an MRI (slight disc bulge, but nothing that would cause such pain). I tried everything over the next few months - acupuncture, chiropractor, spine drs, orthopedist, physiatrist, neurologist, steroid shot, supplements, stretching, walking through the pain, ice, heat, epsom salt baths 3+ times a day, etc etc. My life became a nightmare of pain - unable to ambulate properly, I had to crawl around my house. I could barely drive. I was given a temp handicap parking placard and told to get a cane. I used to run, bike 40 miles a week, garden, now I was reduced to a cane and suggestions of back surgery in less than a couple of months of being in great shape and NO pain?? My sole of my foot and my back was on fire; other parts of me was starting to deteriorate as a result.I am a big reviewer on here because I believe in the power of the truth and word of mouth to help others. I also depend on it as well to help me. So I was going through a review of what, I do not remember, maybe a supplement that might alleviate pain, and it mentions looking into trigger point therapy. I am so glad I followed the trail to this book.By the time I got to this book, it was November 2013. Not quite a year into my hell. My family was suffering, watching me suffer. I would lay around and try not to wince or cry out when I had to get up, knowing my kids were watching. I shuffled around. I missed so many of my kid's activities.Anyway, I got the Kindle version, and I look in this book as fast as I can for how to manage pain for the sole of my foot. Imagine my surprise - THAT pain originates in my CALF? So I look for the tender spot it tells me to and OUCH! THERE IT IS! Painful, in the meat of my calf. I start to gently work on it. It was painful and would get sore with massage, but I worked through it. This was the Saturday before Thanksgiving.Monday before Thanksgiving - TONS to do. Cleaning for family, shopping, etc. I tell my husband I am going out to get groceries at a couple of different stores, he looks worried. How can you handle it, he asks. He knows I usually can only do about a half hour out then come home and rest. I insist, tired of being so disabled. I go to one, two, three stores. I am out for over 2 hrs. And...THERE IS NO PAIN IN MY FOOT. NONE. I am stunned. No pain from driving, which usually exacerbates it. No limping. Normal gait for the most part, though not perfect due to almost a year of altered gait/limp. UNBELIEVABLE! I come home and my husband comes out to help me, worried that I am going to be in a bad place pain wise. Neither of us can believe how well I was doing considering where I was only a few days before. Now, I have to get to work on all the other trigger points that have cropped up due to my altered walk, excessive crawling, and poor sleep posture to work around pain, as well as my low back issues. It took some time. It took work. I ordered the actual book so I can highlight and dog ear pages. For low back pain, your glutes carry some heavy duty trigger points. If you sit a lot, you probably have trigger points. My foot pain is 100% gone, but after a bike ride I can feel it creep back in. I just pull out my lacrosse ball & roll it out, done. The book warns this can happen, so knowing what to expect and then managing it is most of the battle. Low back pain has cleared up around 80 - 90%. TPs have a tendency to return esp in a cold environment (I'm in Boston) and esp if they've been there a while. So it can be a bit of work but very worth it.I have lost a lot of muscle so there is a weakness there, I am working on regaining all the strength I lost. What I cannot understand is why all the specialists I saw in Boston - the land of great doctors! - NONE of them thought of this? Even the PHYSIATRIST? Isn't this supposed to be their specialty, muscle and soft tissue pain mgt & recovery? I told my neuro about TrP and she said "it makes sense".It's is some work to keep up with all the trigger points that crop up but I do it while watching TV or listening to music. If you have soft tissue pain that nothing else seems to help, you have NOTHING to lose here. You can also Google your pain symptom and 'trigger point therapy' and find some solutions. There are also great YouTube videos on it.BTW, if you stretch a tired or cold muscle too fast/too hard it can set off a trigger point. That's what happened with my PT that day. If I had known about trigger point therapy, I could have saved myself from a year of hell on me and my family, as well as the bills.I recommend a cleaner diet, exercise, fresh air and constant movement versus just sitting. Excessive sitting and lying around make soft tissue pain worse. Stand for half of your tv show. Micro breaks from your laptop. Move around more, get blood flowing, blood flow to an injured area is healing. I love Tiger Balm for night time stiffness or to help get your circulation going on a painful spot. There are also some good videos and a Ted Talk on the science of pain in the brain that are worth watching. If you have been in pain for a long time, your brain actually can become hypersensitive to even tiny pain stimulus. An exaggerated response. It is important to retrain the brain not to overreact to small incidents. I took a nasty fall on my bike last week and was totally panicked, as I have not fully recovered from this past year's trauma. I was hurting that day pretty bad but it didn't turn into anything more than sore arms & shoulders for a couple of days. I had to keep telling myself not every boo boo turns into a year's worth of pain. It helps! Please get in touch if you have more questions or input.*UPDATE June 1, 2014*I keep learning from this book. One thing I think has helped keep pain/discomfort at bay is the use of a SMALL KID BALL in addition to the lacrosse ball. I got into the habit of using the lacrosse ball and it works well, but I started to get more pain in the hips & tightness in lower back. Over the last 2 weeks I started using the small ball and it really got into the tight, deep muscle tissue that needed attention, that even the lacrosse ball couldn't reach. I am finding new relief now, just in time for summer activities. The knowledge I have gained from this book has absolutely made a difference in my back pain. Give it a try, it may well be the most affordable & most effective solution you come across.*Update* Sept 6, 2014I am still finding great relief with TrP therapy. Not only through this book but online. YouTube has many instructional videos on how to work out TrP if the book is too technical or if you need a visual. I am finding that I need to work on the QL TrPs. I found a great set of TrP balls in all the sizes I was missing, from tiny to lacrosse ball size, I just received them and they work very well.[...]They are only $20 for the set plus about $6 to ship. I have no connection to this company, FYI. They should have an Amazon listing but they don't I wonder why?I would also like to remind anyone starting out the process of working on their TrPs NOT to go overboard. It is very easy to do. You start out, it feels SO good to work out the knots, you are feeling better and better. Then you assume that MORE is BETTER. Maybe you start rolling the TrPs too hard or too much each day or too much in one session. This is where you might set off excess soreness. You have to be careful with the QL muscles (most of us have TrPs there but don't know it until you get in there with a small TrP ball) or you might cause back spasms. I had a chiropractor overwork my QL's and set off a horrific week of spasms before I discovered TrP therapy. So go slow and careful, it will pay off.*UPDATE* Feb 11, 2015I am still finding great relief with TrP therapy. I joined a gym for the 1st time in a decade to get me through this hard Boston winter and was surprised how many people at the gym were ending their workouts with trigger point therapy methods - rolling out on balls or foam rollers, trainers using them on clients, etc. It has caught on as a medicine free, effective way to manage your muscle aches.I have also found that I need a truly functional space to do my TrP sessions. I have put holes in several walls in my house, so now only the basement cement wall will do. Fortunately, I have the perfect space. A cement wall a few feet from a pool table. I can put a small TrP ball against the wall in my glute area, grab hold of the pool table for leverage, then manipulate the ball into some of the hardest to reach spots by bending over slightly and pushing myself into the ball. (Does this sound perverted? Sorry, this is how it has to be done to find relief! I wouldn't want a massage therapist to try and dig around there to work them.)I have found great pain release from working these hard to reach glute points. For back pain that is not getting better despite best efforts, the glute and hip flexor points are key. Keeping up with my TrPs a few times a week really helps.Women in perimenopause should note that because of our changing hormone levels, your body is PRONE to trigger points as well as random aches & pains that cannot be found on any tests other than a series of hormone test through out your cycle. For some women in major hormone flux it can be severe enough for you to be diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome or fibromyalgia. Yes there are some true cases of those diseases that are not related to hormones or trigger points, but there are also women being misdiagnosed & sent home with RX's for anti-depressants & way too strong pain meds. Do your research. A balanced - KEY WORD IS BALANCED - hormone therapy (like bio hormone replacements) as well as exercise, diet, TrP, and improved digestion (which diminished greatly around 40-45 in women) will make a difference in your pain levels.I am working with a gifted endocrinologist who tests my blood 2x a month so we can get the best picture how to manage my perimenopause. I do not have CFS or fibromyalgia, but I do notice that trigger points crop up more often now that my blood tests reveal I am primenopausal.*UPDATE* September 29, 2015Still loving TrP therapy. I travel with 2 sizes of balls when I fly so that I can roll out those knots that can happen after being cramped on a plane. Still find that most of my knots originate in my glutes. I no longer have any foot pain.I try and tell others about it without sounding too "gushy" and most people just "mm-hmm" me and then forget about it. I don't want to sound like trigger point therapy is the unicorn that will take away everyone's aches and pains, but too many are missing out on medication-free pain relief because doctors or physical therapists aren't offering it as an option.*UPDATE* August 31, 2016I am still actively and successfully using TrP therapy to manage my low back, as well as misc aches and pains that crop up. Now that I'm 46, parts of me gets achy when I overwork it or sleep in an odd position. About 3 times a week I spend a half hour or more with my super bounce rubber ball and a concrete wall. The relief! I think some wonder why I haven't been "cured" of low back pain if I am so enthusiastic about TrP. I ruptured my L4-L5 disc in my late 20's, which puts my low back at a higher risk for aches and pain when I sit too long on something soft, or work too hard in the garden. Before I found this therapy, I used to get so tight, manage my aches with Advil, and wait for it to pass, usually a few days. Now that I am middle aged, my body doesn't bounce back quite like that anymore. I still travel with the rubber ball. There are times when I can throw my back out and it gets inflamed - trigger point therapy does not help that. Then I reach for Advil. Otherwise, this is still my favorite go to muscle and joint soother.*UPDATE* March 19, 2017Still love it, still providing me great relief. I joined a gym this winter & it has the most perfect spot for me to "roll out" after I exercise. I listen to a podcast and get to work. Well built walls - no holes yet!Occasionally, that same pain will creep into my right foot after various activities. Now that I know what to do, I roll out my calf trigger points right away & find relief within a day. I wish physical therapists would introduce a home regimen of TrP in addition to the exercise plan for recovery and relief.Just an interesting anecdote - JK Rowling (author of Harry Potter series for the handful of those that might not know) has tweeted this year about having back pain that feels better when she digs into it with the corner of her sofa. She has trigger points too, apparently!*UPDATE* April 30, 2018I still use Trigger Point Therapy on a weekly basis. Still my go to relief for the aches and pains that come with being active and middle aged. I have woken up in the middle of the night with a painful knot in my glutes that I rolled right out in a few minutes. Give it a try, you have nothing to lose.

This book was recommended to me by a friend who does massage therapy after she was sold on it and her chiropractor endorsed it. And, I have to say, it is incredibly useful. My wife tells me where she hurts. I flip through to the pictures on the part of the body she's indicated. Then I find the zone causing it. And *boom* ... instant relief. Sometimes 2 feet away! It's amazing to me that she can have a muscle ache in her legs, and this book will show me where to rub on her back and she is knotted up exactly where it says she will be. After years of rubbing where the pain is, only for momentary relief. It just floors me that the source of the issue can be somewhere else. We keep it by our bedside. Essential.

This book is changing my life every day. I was diagnosed with chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia 15 years ago. There are still occasional bad days, but this book has given me a way to self treat and that makes a tremendous difference. I can live a more normal life knowing that if I have a flare up I don't have to worry about what doctor or therapist to try to get in to see. I don't feel helpless and frustrated anymore. I've gone from seeing the chiropractor every week to once a month. I used to have massage therapy every 2 weeks, now it's every 4 or 5 weeks. I'm not afraid to exercise anymore. That's priceless! (Literally, I'm saving a lot of money too) Like any thing else, you have to put in the effort. I usually do it while I watch tv in the evening and as the book suggests, I did it two or three times a day for the first several weeks. Now once a day seems like a good maintenance. I just wanted to pay this forward because of all the benefits it's brought me. If you suffer from pain and are wondering whether or not to give this a try, buy this book and a back body buddy or theracane. It may be the best 50 dollars (for both) you ever spent!

I love kindle books, but this textbook did not live up to my expectations. The print is small and cannot be enlarged as easily as the regular books (using the Font change button). You need to use your fingers to enlarge the print which is very inconsistent and very distracting when you are trying to study the material. Another issue is that the paperback book comes with a CD-ROM and the Kindle version does not. Also, there is supposed to be a code number at the back of the book that allows the student access to an internet site to further learning. I was unable to locate that number anywhere. I was going to try to return this book and get the paperback, but I decided to keep it. Although I am starting to get used to this version, I am not going to order any more textbooks on my Kindle. I'll stick with the hard copies even though they cost more. Please don't think that I am opposed to Amazon textbooks. The prices are definitely lower than the college bookstores and the delivery is excellent. I will absolutely continue to be a customer.

It had smoke like odor ... couldn’t removed it !! It was very unconfortable to study during the whole semester breathing that

No Cd included. This book is worthless to me. Listing said cd was included. Will be returning

This was the recommended book to prepare for a medical vocabulary clep test for my physician associate program. Each section is divided by body system and not only contains the roots, prefixes, and suffixes pertinent to that system but also has basic clinical information as well. A great study tool for anyone going into healthcare.

great needed it for school

Thank you
