This book is exactly what new baseball parents and veteran baseball parents have been looking for. If you are new to the sport with your little player it gives you all the basics. If you are a veteran it helps you with prepare yourself and young player for the development for the future. My favorite quote from the book "a college recruiter will never ask what your 8-14u record was. Focus on their development". Great book, a must have for all youth baseball parents.
As a Coach, I would like every parent involved in athletics to read this book. An insight to the inner workings of the game and the truth not the marketed truth. The game has become a business and this will give you a return to the game and what it's really about. I encourage my players to read this book and I have passed my copy around to the point it has literally fallen apart.
I highly recommend this book for anyone who has interest in learning the ins and outs of the game of baseball and/or has a family member interested in participating in the sport.The book was very informative, with great ideas and topics that I think many people tend to forget about. As a person who is unfamiliar with the world of baseball (there are even definitions for technical terms in the back of the book), I feel that this book gave a great, in-depth view on how this sport is played, but also the psychological and physical aspects of the game. I appreciate the author's ability to portray all dimensions involved for both the parent's AND the child's growth in learning the best approach to succeeding. And most importantly, having FUN!It is a very easy read! I think this is a great tool of reference that can be used at anytime throughout a child's baseball career. The author's passion for the game is evident throughout and after passing this book along to my cousin whose son is interested in the game, I know that her and her son will benefit immensely!

It's a fresh insight , loaded with information , reader friendly and has a special focus on the importance on how to choose the right private instructor for a child . As a former coach , it made my job a lot easier when knowledgeable parents already knew what was expected of their child , but also what was expected of them and their actions at the ballpark as well as at home. It was vital that the conduct , sportsmanship and work ethic be fully understood and shared by the child , the parent and the coach. This book will help parents understand and enjoy the game because it is a clear, simple and refreshing read. Every baseball parent should read GameChanger! It gives very insightful information about the world of competitive baseball. I even had my 10 year old son read the chapters on "Contagious Attitudes" and "The Importance of Extra Practice". As a mother who never played competitive sports, reading this book provided me with many strategies for helping my son excel in the game that he loves! Two thumbs up!!!
Gamechanger has really helped my family address and approach the game of baseball completely differently. The chapters on being a positive team mate and not worrying about wins and losses has led to my high school son's promotion to the Freshman A team and his intent to play Summer ball for the HS, and just this weekend my 11U son was awarded the MVP of a tournament game. This book is great for parents that want to help their young ballplayer reach their full potential. McCree discusses the physical and psychological aspects of being a baseball player, and provides great insights into how parents can best serve their children.My favorite chapter is Chapter 4: Comparisonitis. This chapter is great for both parents, and players. It explains the differences between competing, and comparing, and this distinction will have a tremendous impact on the player's confidence.I strongly recommend this book. I've coached travel baseball in Atlanta, GA, and I am currently the strength and conditioning coach for the baseball team at Decatur High School.
