About the Author

Cathy Hester Seckman is a lifelong resident of East Liverpool, Ohio, and has been a fan of day trips since her parents first said, “Let’s take a ride!” on a Sunday afternoon. Writing this book has been an adventure as she discovers new favorite places and revisits old ones. Seckman is a back-of-the-book indexer and has written some 160 indexes, including the one in this book. She has published more than a dozen short stories, hundreds of magazine articles, and thousands of newspaper articles. She is the author of East Liverpool, an Images of America title released by Arcadia Publishing in 2015. Weirdo World, her young adult fantasy novel, was published by Cool Well Press in 2012. As an indie author, she cowrote Bad Moon Rising, a murder mystery set between Woodstock and the Kent State shootings; Secrets Matter, a women’s fiction title; and an anthology, H2O Mysteries.

Crabill Fen State Nature Preserve Buck Creek State Park, 1901 Buck Creek Lane, Springfield, OH 45502; 614-265-6561 naturepreserves.ohiodnr.gov/crabillfen Crabill Fen, named for a pioneer family, is a spring-fed alkaline wetland at the edge of the Kennard glacial outwash. There are no visitor facilities or trails, but nature lovers will find it worthwhile for the unusual plant species preserved there. These include prairie dock, limestone savory, fen Indian plantain, fen sedge, and blue-leaved willow, among others. Ecological management, including removal and treatment of invasive species, keeps the fen protected. Because the fen is a sensitive area, access is by downloadable permit from the ODNR Division of Natural Areas and Preserves; request at least 14 days in advance. 4. Crawford Park District 2401 State Route 598, Crestline, OH 44827; 419-683-9000 www.crawfordparkdistrict.org Two parks, three nature preserves, a wildlife area, and a bikeway make up this park district serving Crawford County in northern Ohio. The 53-acre Unger Park has a 3-mile trail system that includes sections open to horses from June through October. Yearly prescribed burns keep the restored prairie healthy. Unger also features more than 100 species of reintroduced prairie plants and a pond and wetland habitat. Lowe-Volk Park near Crestline has 2 miles of trails, a fishing dock, and a boardwalk. Sears Woods State Nature Preserve is known for abundant spring wildflowers, songbirds, and wood frogs. Heckert Nature Preserve is known for butterflies, some of which overwinter there. The 33-acre Daughmer Prairie Savannah preserves a remnant of unplowed, deep-soil land, with species including prairie cord grass, Bicknell’s sedge, wheat sedge, and flat-stemmed spike-rush. At the Sandusky Wildlife Area, a yearly drawing allows a limited number of hunters from Crawford County. The Colonel Crawford Bikeway, 32 miles long, winds through several parks and preserves. One stop is at a monument that honors Col. Crawford, captured and killed by Native Americans in 1782. 5. Lake Katharine State Nature Preserve 1703 Lake Katharine Road, Jackson, OH 45640; 740-286-2487 www.naturepreserves.ohiodnr.gov/lakekatharine Lake Katharine is one of the little-known gems of southwest Ohio. Surrounded by a 2,019-acre preserve, the wildflower display here includes native orchids and both bigleaf and umbrella magnolias. The western side of the preserve is closed to visitors, but elsewhere, Calico Bush, Salt Creek, and Pine Ridge trails are available to hikers. The 6 miles of trails lead visitors across creeks, through marshlands, and under the edges of massive sandstone cliffs. The 120-acre artificial lake is open only to permit holders for a fee. Those seeking to use the lake can call the park office on certain days of the month to request a permit. Five per day are issued Fridays through Mondays between April and October, sunrise to sunset. Limited hunting is sometimes permitted in the preserve.

This is an honest look at charities and charitable foundations that will make most readers research carefully before deciding where to make donations. Donated equipment that recipients have neither the skill or resources to maintain, corruption, unrealistic plans and thousands of dollars poured into projects with failure rates up to 85% do not inspire confidence in donors or recipients. I will never again naively send a check.

If you want to read a biography in which you will learn about yourself as well as Novogratz and the developing world this book is worth the read. It is easy to read and does not hide behind financial ease. Novogratz is honest about her frustrations and other's frustrations with her. Having worked a bit in several countries I found her experiences both believable and inspiring.She discovers a financial truth: If you give someone something the polite response is 'thank you' with no critique attached. If you loan someone money or sell someone something they will give you honest feedback. Aid is not always the best answer to all forms of poverty. There are circumstances in which payment is not possible but when possible if a person can pay even a small amount they feel empowered.Novogratz's work does not end with the book. The New York based Acumen Fund is a conduit for angel investors in businesses all over the world which have the potential to scale to 1 million clients. Great read. Novogratz's shared many stories about the struggles of the people in Africa and goes on to remind us all not to give up hope, that we will all still make mistakes and to learn from all this.As a high school teacher working in a low-socioeconomic area, I do hear stories of the struggles of families here in the San Joaquin area. When they ask what I think, I share some of the stories that Novogratz has mentioned in her book.Some very interesting and helpful information that goes along with this book is that the Acumen Fund recommends using a teaching guide. I have shared this book and the teaching guide with the English department and recommended that they look into implementing this into some of their reading assignments or to pass on to other the classes.I do recommend this book to everyone

I loved this book, despite the fact that it was completely different than what I expected. It challenged me intellectually, although I couldn’t hold a candle to the author. It’s a great read and I’d challenge anyone to read it.

I absolutely love this book! Warning - it will absolutely whet your appetite to visit Australia.Several itineraries are presented inside, with options for shortening/lengthening the trip, swapping out legs, and approximate total costs in AUD. Fantinel summarizes each itinerary with what will be covered, and who it is geared toward - i.e. if you're a food/wine lover, nature lover, etc. Much of the content is geared toward solo travel, though Fantinel is quick to note when having a companion would be helpful.The book doesn't go into the history of each area (like a RIck Steves guidebook would), but I actually appreciated that fact. It was nice to just have the facts presented, along with what stands out about each area (i.e. one site being one of the largest seal residences).Fantinel is quick to note which itineraries are best for newbie travelers to Australia, and also shares a lot of link love - to her own and others' blog posts, tourist information sites, and more.She has a very approachable writing voice, and I'm excited to see what else is in the pipeline for her to publish.This book is a quick read, and one that will be invaluable as I dream about making my first trip to Australia a reality.Disclaimer: I received a free copy of the book from the author; I was not required to write a positive review, and have not been compensated for this. The book is a good resource material for first time travellers who have plenty of time to visit Australia and enjoy long driving. It will give you recommendations on how long you should stay in each place, estimated budget and present itineraries based on the kind of activities you prefer. It also gives you options on what other activities to do if you can extend your time or things to opt out if time is short. For someone like me who will be visiting Australia for the 1st time and comes from the other side of the world, it gave me a few of tips on areas I intend to visit and how to plan my itinerary according to my preference and limitation. It would have been great if Tasmania was also included.

I really enjoyed perusing this guide! I'm traveling solo this year, and while I've been figuring out everything on my own so far, it was SO nice to have suggestions laid out for me for my time in Australia. This guide is a quick read that made me more excited about visiting Australia, and Michela Fantinel clearly has the happiness and safety of her readers in mind. The emphasis on itineraries for solo trekkers, and particularly, female-identifying trekkers, was much appreciated. I particularly liked how frequently Michela linked in outside sources that you can explore via Internet connection on your Kindle - her book thus served as a great stepping stone to digging in more deeply into the particular trips and sights that peaked my interest. Michela also invites her readers to get in touch with her throughout the book if you have any questions, which I think is an absolutely fantastic option that you don't get a lot with tour/guidebooks these days! It made me feel like a real person had my back while I was making plans for my time in Australia.Michela includes plenty of suggestions on specific places to stay and specific travel websites to try out for more information on tours/sightseeing, but my one suggestion would be to include more specific suggestions for places to eat along the suggested itineraries. However, I truly can't complain as this book was a source of guidance and comfort to me. Thanks for taking the time to put together such a handy book!

I repeat: DO NOT PURCHASE THIS BOOK unless you like to waste your money. The format is essentially the woman's blog printed and bound--complete with LINKS THAT CANNOT BE LINKED. She didn't even have the decency to research the URLs for the sites she includes to use in their stead. The type size of the font is oversized in order to give the book some heft. If there were a way to rate an item minus stars this would get -10.

It has some useful information but I would not recommend it for several reasons: 1. It is too big. I cannot imagine bring a book of this size with me on my trip. 2. It also appears to be directly produced from a blog post. It is different from any other real guidebooks that I have read so far. 3. The content is very limited given the price. It may be good for planning overall itinerary but provides very little information for specific sites.

Wonderful surprise of a travel guide that is crisp and to the point, accurate and simple to use. Lots of room for your own notes while traveling or planning. Well thought out and detailed, like reading a travel diary.

51 pages of information that I got on the internet in 5 minutes by myself. Truly a scam.

The itinerary is unfortunately comprised of screen prints of pages of hyperlinks, useless in a printed book. This should only be available as an ebook. I will be returning it.
