I find Optometry Law extremely well written and easier to comprehend than your typical law book. It breaks down each section of the law with respect to Optometry into simple, concise descriptions. I especially like the sample cases and take home message after each section that makes the specific law Dr. Eap is explaining more applicable and easier to understand. The break down of the Clinical Optometry portion of this book is clearly organized into what is expected of the practitioner as standard of care as well as what can potentially result in legal action if the standard of care is breached. The sample forms that are included (for informed consent, dilation, release of patient information, just to name a few) make it easy to incorporate into any optometric practice. For all practicing OD's, this is an excellent reference book and will enable all clinicians to be more thorough and detail oriented.

If you are practicing optometry in the United States, you should definitely read this book. If you are, you're more likely practicing some level of negligence without knowing it. This book will help remind you of it.The book is quite easy to read. I'm impressed that a JD can write a book in such a simple language, which is what I like most about it. First part of the book covers optometry law of the US. Then, it goes into the laws of each state from A to Z. I keep it in my office for good reference.I also like that the book gives you different forms: informed consent forms, refusal forms, referral forms, surgical forms, other forms that you can copy and use for your office. Even these forms are written in a simple and concise language. Patients will feel more friendly reading and signing the forms. The only little thing I'd wish was that the "Summary of Optometry Laws by State" section was not written in all CAP's. But that's just minor thing, and it's my personal preference.Overall, I'd give this book an A+. It deserves to be read by all practicing optometrists. If you're an optometry student about to go into clinical, I would highly recommend this book as well.

This new text by Stephen Eap, O.D., J.D., serves as an excellent reference to the numerous laws that govern the practice of optometry including negligence, assault, battery, informed consent, fraud, defamation, contract and liability. These important topics are described in a clear and concise manner. Dr. Eap then focuses on several clinical entities including contact lenses, binocular vision, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and dissects each with reference to the law. The final chapters deal with risk management and legal tips for the practitioner. In this age of consumerism and expanded scope of practice, the book serves as an important reference for the legal and ethical implications of providing quality eye and vision health care.

Outstanding book! A must have for any optometrist. Lots of information laid out in an easy to reference format covering all 50 states. Highly recommended.

#169,960 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

Simply the best short story collection in the history of Science Fiction. Given the extraordinary hubris of Mr. Ellison, it's amazing that for once his swagger is warranted. At its core is a collection of better-than-average short stories by a bunch of the writers circa mid-60s. But what makes this collection is Harlan's foreward, and the authors' rebuttals of that in their own afterwords, and their reflections on their own writings. In this version Harlan adds another layer of reflection on the lives of the authors who have now passed away or otherwise faded from view. Entertaining as sci-fi and fascinating for anyone who aspires to writing.

The best part of this book is Harlan Ellison's introductions. He's got two for the book and one for each story. That makes 33 total. The man likes to write and it shows. Another thing that comes through is the respect that he holds for his writers. He truly loves them and their stories. It's hard for the reader to not get caught up when the editor himself is such an adamant cheerleader.I have to admit I didn't find much of it dangerous, but I could see that that wouldn't have been true back when it was first published. We're different now and what we've seen in our entertainment has changed much in the last 40 years. We've matured. Most of the stories are well written, though, and it doesn't matter if they are no longer dangerous. Carol Emshwiller's writing style is as fresh now as it was back in the 60s. Same with PKD. Great discoveries for me include the Hollywood writer: Howard Rodman; the weird writer: David R. Bunch; the beautiful writer: Roger Zelazny; the tried and true writer: Lester Del Rey.The most dangerous story here was Theodore Sturgeon's. It was a tale of accepted incest. Still controversial and weird in my opinion. I am a fan of Sturgeon's work, but I must say, this story felt overwritten to me. A disappointment almost. He's a great writer and I enjoyed the ride, but it did go on a bit.Good book to have in your collection because there are so many references to it. And when it comes to science fiction, anything new is old after a decade, so you can't expect it to remain astounding, amazing, dangerous forever. The main thing is the literary quality. It's tops. That more than anything else has kept this book on the required reading pile. You could have worse homework.

This collection is the second volume of science fiction stories collected by Harlan Ellison. He intends them to represent the creative and unrestrained voices that were emerging in the genre at that time. The first volume is Dangerous Visions; a planned third volume was never published. Here are five of the forty that I liked a little more than the rest:Ursula Le Guin's "The Word for World is Forest" is the novella version of the subsequently published novel The Word for World is Forest. Heavily influenced by the author's view of the Vietnam War, the story chronicles human colonization of the planet Athshe and their exploitation of its native sentient species. Initially passive, the natives eventual decide they have had enough.Joanna Russ's "When It Changed" takes place on the planet Whileaway where there have been no men for centuries. When male astronauts from Earth reestablish contact with this lost colony, it is clear that contact with men will impact the planet's culture and values. Not everyone is pleased at the prospect.Chad Olliver's "King of the Hill" begins in the near future on an Earth expiring in a swamp of pollutants. Sam looks around him for some way to use his great wealth to make this dying place a little better. He sees no hope. So he turns his attention to who will inherit when he is gone.Piers Anthony's "In the Barn" is built around the existence of parallel realities, each with its own Earth, solar system, stars, etc. Some realities differ greatly from ours, some differ only slightly. Hitch is an investigator who travels between realities to evaluate differences from our own and the advisability of official contact. In his latest investigation he makes a close contact within Reality #772's dairy industry and learns the importance of proper breeding.Ben Bova's "Zero Gee" is a roommate story. Chet, Jill, and Linda spend a few days in a space station on a mission for the U.S. Air Force. There isn't a lot of privacy. And sometimes three really is a crowd. `Nuff said. And there is even some interesting poetry by Ray Bradbury. There are some good stories here. Most do not have that frantic, trying-too-hard-to-shock feel that was too much present in the first volume. Perhaps the nearly ten years that passed between the two publication dates had something to do with it. The new voices were starting to become the voices we were used to. Whatever the reason, the result is a better collection of stories. Enjoy!

Read this quite a while ago with my science fiction book club and my recollection is that it was well-received by nearly everyone. Based more on some written notes I found tucked inside than on any concrete memory of the book, it looks like my favorite stories were "Roll Them Bones" (Leiber), "Lord Randy, My Son" (Hensley), "Judas" (Brunner), "Auto-Da-Fé" (Zelazny), and "Aye, and Gomorrah" (Delany). Highlights also included the afterwards written by Zelazny and Delany for their respective stories. Zelazny's is an explanation of what a writer does, and Delany's is an explanation of sci-fi itself.

This was a favorite with my kids and her classmates. Very funny book! Reasonably priced as well. We actually bought another shortly after the first one arrived.

Perfect gift for my 6-year-old niece. It's not my kind of humor, but tons of adults will love it--you know who you are. The designs are simple enough for a child to enjoy coloring, but they will be too simplistic for adult coloring enthusiasts; other adults will be delighted by the fart jokes, however. ;) There are 20 pages to color, each with a blank back, so you can display your artwork on the fridge without wasting a picture on the other side. The pages are the size of a standard coloring book.

Yes I bought this for my mom. She's awesome and likes things that gross other people out like farting. She bought me a fart machine when I was 7 or something so we could play practical jokes on people. I got it as a gag gift for Christmas but I think it backfired because she'll probably save it until my daughter is old enough to color inside the lines and then teach her about farting while coloring animals in a book. Hilarious.

I bought this as a gag gift for my uncle. He's immature enough to find farting animals hilarious, so he got a kick out of it. The page quality was good, designs printed clearly, and lots of different farting animals for your disturbed coloring pleasure. Great gift item for the silly people in your life!

I bought this and a "dog butt" coloring book as a funny Christmas present. They arrived in the same bubble wrapped pacyking. The reason I'm not giving them five stars is because it literally smelled like a fart when I first opened it. I dont know if they seller thought it would be funny or if something was wrong that the seller didn't know about. But it caused me to get physically sick. I had to sit down after smelling it because I got dizzy. I'm allergic to a lot of different things that smell. So I'm still sitting down while writing this review and drinking water. I dont feel good but hopefully I'll be fine. The seller needs to have more consideration if this was intentional. I'm home alone with my one year old. It would be horrible if this caused/causes me to faint

What better gift for my 12-year old brother in law? This book is amazing and fully meets every expectation I have for a Farting Animal Coloring Book. Probably going to grab another one for a white elephant gift as adult coloring books are in.

This was by far a great find and great buy for a White Elephant gift at an adult party. I paired it with plain yellow school pencils that I wrote on each pencil the color: Blue, Purple, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Brown, Black. And then I rubber banded the pencils and stuck a paper label on them calling them "Colored Pencils for the Blind". Yep, that went over great. Got a lot of laughs.

This is a funny coloring book, and it has lots of pages. My only complaint is that the designs are too simple. There's no backgrounds really, it will just be a plain animal with a fart cloud. The pictures are so simple each page would only take 2 minutes to color. Although it's funny, I wish the pictures were a little more detailed.

From the Back Cover

The fairest flower in Mawbry is Erienne Fleming, the enchanting, raven-haired daughter of the village mayor. Charming, spirited and exquisitely lovely, she is beset on all sides by suitors, any one of whom would pay a king's fortune for a place in her heart. About the Author

(1939 - 2007) Kathleen E. Woodiwiss, creator of the modern historical romance, died July 6, 2007 in Minnesota. She had just turned 68. Her attorney, William Messerlie, said that she died after a long illness. Born on June 3, 1939 in Alexandria, Louisiana, Mrs. Woodiwiss was the youngest of eight siblings. She long relished creating original narratives, and by age six was telling herself stories at night to help herself fall asleep. At age 16, she met U.S. Air Force Second Lieutenant Ross Woodiwiss at a dance, and they married the following year. She wrote her first book in longhand while living at a military outpost in Japan. Woodiwiss is credited with the invention of the modern historical romance novel: in 1972, she released The Flame and the Flower, an instant New York Times bestseller, creating literary precedent. The Flame and the Flower revolutionized mainstream publishing, featuring an epic historical romance with a strong heroine and impassioned sex scenes. "Kathleeen E. Woodiwiss is the founding mother of the historical romance genre," says Carrie Feron, vice president/editorial director of William Morrow and Avon Books, imprints of HarperCollins Publishers. Feron, who has been Woodiwiss's editor for 13 years, continues, "Avon Books is proud to have been Kathleen's sole publishing partner for her paperbacks and hardcover novels for more than three decades." Avon Books, a leader in the historical romance genre to this day, remains Mrs. Woodiwiss's original and only paperback publisher; William Morrow, Avon's sister company, publishes Mrs. Woodiwiss's hardcovers. The Flame and the Flower was rejected by agents and hardcover publishers, who deemed it as "too long" at 600 pages. Rather than follow the advice of the rejection letters and rewrite the novel, Mrs. Woodiwiss instead submitted it to paperback publishers. The first publisher on her list, Avon, quickly purchased the novel and arranged an initial 500,000 print run. The novel sold over 2.3 million copies in its first four years of publication. The success of this novel prompted a new style of writing romance, concentrating primarily on historical fiction tracking the monogamous relationship between a helpless heroines and the hero who rescued her, even if he had been the one to place her in danger. The romance novels which followed in her example featured longer plots, more controversial situations and characters, and more intimate and steamy sex scenes. "Her words engendered an incredible passion among readers," notes Feron. Bestselling author Julia Quinn agrees, saying, "Woodiwiss made women want to read. She gave them an alternative to Westerns and hard-boiled police procedurals. When I was growing up, I saw my mother and grandmother reading and enjoying romances, and when I was old enough to read them myself, I felt as if I had been admitted into a special sisterhood of reading women." New York Times bestselling author Susan Elizabeth Phillips, a leading voice in the women's fiction arena, says, "We all owe our careers to her. She opened the world of romance to us as readers. She created a career for us to go into." The pioneering author has written 13 novels over the course of 35 years, all New York Times bestsellers. Kathleen E. Woodiwiss's final literary work, the upcoming Everlasing, will be published by William Morrow in October 2007. "Everlasting is Kathleen's final gift to her fans," notes Feron. Kathleen E. Woodiwiss, who was predeceased by her husband and son Dorren, is survived by sons Sean and Heath, and numerous grandchildren.

A Rose in Winter is a historical romance set in England in 1792.I read this book when it first came out in 1987 and loved every page. Fast forward 28 years and it still rates in my top five romances of all time. The story starts out with Erienne Fleming being told she has to marry someone soon. Her father, Avery Fleming, is the mayor and has a gambling problem and is in debt. Of course, Erienne has no dowry, thanks to his drinking and gambling. Not only is he a gambler and unable to pay his debts, he's also a cheater and when Christopher Seton calls him out for cheating, Avery sends his son, Erienne's brother, to the duel where he loses mobility in his arm.Avery ends up auctioning Erienne off to the highest bidder who happens to be Lord Stuart Saxton, Christopher Seton's cousin. He is a fire survivor and drags his leg and wears a mask and gloves to hide his burns. She is repulsed by him and thinks him to be scary and even a bit evil. He was actually a kind, generous man and wanted only the best for her. He's in love with her and wants her to fall in love with him and lets her take her time in getting to know him and get used to him but he doesn't reveal himself until nearly the end of the book.Meanwhile, Christopher Seton is escorting Erienne to balls and shopping, pretty much standing in for Stuart and she finds herself falling in love with him rather than Lord Saxton. She knew it was wrong and an effort to rid herself of thoughts of Christopher, she capitulates to Lord Saxton's desires. Even though he is deformed and scarred, he is still a man.The mystery revolves around a black clothed man who rides a black horse and runs the countryside at night, wreaking havoc on highwaymen and executing his own justice. No one knows who he is and he is feared by all. Everybody is afraid they are going to be murdered by him.The book is long (567 pages in paperback) but it never drags. It's filled with compelling characters, action, adventure and a great love story.Kathleen Woodiwiss was absolutely a master at writing stories like this. I wish some of the romance writers of today would take a few days to sit back and read one of her books and see how it's supposed to be done. But I'm about to read another contemporary.

I absolutely love this book. I've reread this book countless times. It was my first Kathleen Woodiwiss and will always hold a special place in my heart. I adored Christopher. I loved that we went after what he wanted without wavering from his purpose, he was also so caring and protective. I liked Erienne as well, she was a woman of her time, yet brave when she needed to be. I love everything about this book, it captivates me. I highly recommend. <3“A Rose in WinterA crimson bloom in winter’s snow,Born out of time, like a maiden’s woe,Spawned in a season when the chill winds blow.’Twas found in a sheltered spot,Bright sterling gules and blemished not,Red as a drop o’ blood from the broken heart,Of the maid who waits and weeps atop the tor,Left behind by yon argent knight sworn to war,’Til ajousting and aquesting he goes no more.Fear not, Sweet Jo, amoulderin’ on the moor. The winter’s rose doth promise in the fading runes of yore,That true love once found will again be restored.”“Do you think calling me ‘Mr. Seton’ is going to stop me from wanting you?” he asked as his eyes caressed her. “You know very little about me… or men… if you think mere words can quench what I feel for you. ’Tis no simple lust that gnaws at me, Erienne, but an ever-raging desire to have you with me every moment, to feel your softness beneath my searching hand, and to claim you as my own. Nay, no stilted title can cool what burns in me.”-Christopher to Erienne“I believe, my dear Erienne,” he began solicitously, the humor in his voice disguised by a disapproving frown, “that you either have a penchant for self-destruction… or you are somehow testing me… or my ability to protect you. I think this may bear further investigation.”-ChristopherThe warmth that went through her could not be laid entirely to a hot blush. “You, sir, have a very evil imagination!”“Nay, madam,” he denied. “Vivid, aye! But nothing about you is evil, and that’s all I think about.”-Erienne & Christopher“Tis obvious that you’re easily…” She paused, searching for a more sarcastic and descriptive word than “encouraged.”“Aroused?” he queried.Erienne gasped. “Certainly not!”“Have you changed your mind? You said at a twitch of a skirt…”“I know what I said!”“The subject seems to be on your mind quite a bit, my lady.”“I wonder why,” she retorted with unmistakable satire. It was impossible to ignore the manly feel of him against her.“Because you lust after my body?” he asked, feigning innocence.Erienne caught her breath in outrage. “I am a married woman, sir!”He heaved a laborious sigh. “Here we go again!”“Oh, you buffoon! Why don’t you leave me alone?”“Did I ask you to follow me?” he protested. She groaned aloud in frustration. “I’m sorry I did!”“Were you bruised?” He snuggled her closer against his body. “You feel all right to me.”“Christopher, if I weren’t so afraid of this horse, I’d slap you,” she threatened.“Why? I only inquired of your health.”“Because you make free with your hands! Now, stop that!” She threw away the hand that had settled on her thigh. “Don’t you ever get tired of playing the rake?”“The sport warms and excites me, madam,” he said, chuckling in her ear.-Erienne & Christopher“Tis a fact I’ve learned all too well that words cast out in the light of day, like doves, oft come home to roost in the darkest hours.”-Christopher“I can’t leave you alone.” He touched his lips to the smoothly rising slope of her shoulder. “The thought of you stumbles the beat of my heart and arouses such a hunger in me that I must seek you out or groan beneath the torture of it. You have chained me to you, Erienne. The beast is your slave.”-Lord Saxton“Whatever my lady desires,” he breathed, nuzzling the fragrant tresses beside her ear. “My world is where you are, and I follow where you lead.”Erienne giggled as his teeth nibbled at her earlobe. “Nay, sir. I will never lead you, for my hand will be tucked firmly in yours. We are one, in truth, and by your side I will gladly walk or stand if you will have me there.”“If?” There was amazement evident in his tone as he repeated the word. “Have I fought for you all these many months just to place you behind me, where I cannot view your beauty? Nay, my lady, beside me is where I would have you, always close to my heart.”“Aye, milord.” She snuggled close to him, but his low, wheezing laughter made her draw back again to try to see the eyes that were only a dark shadow behind the silken cloth.“Something amuses you?”“Sleep! ’Twill be impossible with you in my arms.”“Shall I go?” she questioned, resting a hand on his chest.“Never!” He caught her to him in a fierce embrace, burying his face against her throat.-Erienne & Lord Saxton

Not your typical modern romance novel, her writing is very poetic, Old English style. At some points, I thought she went into too many descriptions of certain environments, where I skimmed through it, it wasn't really necessary for the story I felt, hence the 4 stars. The two main characters were very enjoyable, loved their heated arguments, Christopher was very witty & humorous, very cute character. If it wasn't for the very small print of the book, this book could of been easily 1,000pgs. It was a very long story, but entertaining enough to read thru some lengthy chapters. So, if you're looking for a different take on Beauty & The Beast, then you'll enjoy this book.

I chose this rating because Kathleen's world of romance, mystery and love was my first experience in the magic of creative art in word picture form as a young adult. I was newly married and soon a mother without the slightest clue of how to turn my reality into the magic of my soul spun dreams. Kathleen gave me several heroines to choose from and feel good about becoming who I was meant to be in my own right. You see, my mother was a very troubled soul and her love was broken at an early age as many little girls are. I had to rely on what was supplied in the woodlands and imagination as a child, for my love became became broken as well. Trust was a foreign word and a long time in the making through believing in true love and not giving up. I now have the man of my dreams. My own real life Gary Cooper😉😉
