About the Author
James Dean’s art has sold in more than ninety galleries and shops across the United States. He has devoted his paintings to Pete the Cat for fifteen years and has turned his natural love for cats into his life’s work. James published his first adult book, The Misadventures of Pete the Cat, a history of his artwork, in 2006. He illustrated his first self-published children’s book, Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes, in 2008, and the follow-up book, Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes, in 2011. My grandson, who is 3.5 years old, loves Pete the Cat. He also is into pirates at the moment. When I saw this book, I knew he would enjoy it. He loves it!He visits our house every week and, while I read to him often during the visit, one of our favorite times is just before nap when we do some stickers and read a book of his choice. This book combines both activities into one. We read the story and then place two stickers – his choice of whether they go in the book, on his shirt or on the back of his hands. The stickers are well made enough that they stick no matter where he puts them.The story is a cute adventure looking for treasure. There are pirates, treasure, a monster, and some pretty cool music. It's a long enough story to be a good nap time one and looks like it will be a fairly easy reader when he is a bit older.
It would be hard to overstate the popularity of Pete the Cat with their audience, at least at my house. These have proven to be very nice transitions into more active reading efforts, which is great, and the stickers are definitely a bonus.
Perfect for my 4-year old who has just started reading. The repetitive characters are great and she really likes them. The books are relatively short and the pages are one or two lines. Perfect for new readers with easy words and relatively few difficult words.
I don't know why this book receives such good ratings. It is the worst of the Pete the Cat books. Its not fun to read. too much dull dialogue.
I read this to my 3-year old choir class (14 kiddos ages 3-4 years) and they didn't move a muscle! They loved it. Like many "Pete" books, the plot is not exactly riveting, but the little ones like it :)
Grandson loves Pete the Cat, so anything like this is his 'favorite". Successful buy.
I bought this having never read it. I am saddened to say I should have checked it out first.It is not the best Pete the Cat book by far. It was disappointing. The rhythm the books normally have isn’t as pronounced and although the kids liked the story, they weren’t as engaged as usual.Wish I had gotten it at the library first before buying.
To start with I love these books! My kiddo struggles with reading and gets frustrated pretty easily but there's never any struggling to get him to read when its a Pete the Cat book. Can't wait to give him this one for Christmas!
