My daughter is doing drivers Ed right now, I added this book to the course requirements and the teacher where she learned this stuff. Definitely worth the read for young drivers and as a refresher to those of us who've been around the block a time or two!

This is a book is certainly for teenage drivers but also for drivers that have been driving for many years or even decades. Sometimes us older drivers need a reboot on safe driving. Damian Brindle produced the excellent Drive Safely book. It is written in succinct clear plain language and should be read by all drivers, especially young inexperienced drivers. Parents should give this book to every teen with a learner permit. It should be handed out in every drivers ed class for those of any age. Importantly Mr. Brindle covers distracted driving beyond just the warnings about cellphone use. I also liked the advice he gave about making all the adjustments to mirrors, A/C, radio, seats before a driver gets underway. Throughout the book Mr. Brindle provides hyperlinks to sources for statistics, as well as useful references, products and other survival/safety books. As a former EMT and Outdoor Emergency Care instructor, I have made it a habit to have emergency first aid supplies in my vehicles and the gloves I keep are high temperature resistant types. Mr Brindle has excellent advice.

Everyone needs a reminder, so this book is suitable for experienced drivers that need to be reminded of some rules of the road and driving techniques they have forgotten. And it's excellent for learning drivers, of course.

Love this edition! I have bought about 20+ of these as gifts to pass out. Love them and a little sad I cant find this small inexpensive hardback edition anymore! :(

I've been a Christian since I was a child, but even into my newly 30s, I could never keep my head in the bible becuase it was so annoyingly confusing. One thing I hate about studying the bible is just continuously hitting verses that don't make sense, and then I gotta stop and do more research on it. Then, I return to reading, and hit another verse I don't understand, and then it's the same routine over and over. For this reason, I just hinder studying the bible.So, after ranting to somebody about it, they suggested I get an application bible, which I had never heard before. Just two days into it, it's successfully KEEPING me in the bible. What I enjoy is that there's additional commentary either above or usually at the bottom of the page that explains almost EVERY verse in detail. In fact, this book is so detailed that at first, I was worried about how much of a ramble it was, but it's worth reading to help you be more intimate with God's word, and even gain a better perspective then to rely on how ignorant I was. There's so much thorough material to read that it's taking me a very long time to finish Genesis.1) I appreciate the commentary and the additional bonus histories that may relate to the passages.2) I appreciate the timelines (years), and even the maps given to demonstrate where an event happened.3) It tells you who wrote each book.4) Right at the end of each chapter, It gives guidelines/summary of who a character was; their weakness, who they are related to, and how many times they were mentioned in the bible.5) There is red text to pinpoint Christ's dialogue. When comparing my old NIV bible to this, it didn't have that, but does have the same material; so nothing (to my knowledge so far) has been left out.One thing I have to caution people on is be light in marking or highlighting on the pages, becuase they do bleed through the VERY paper-thin pages. So, maybe putting sticky tabs at the edge of the page may work better.I will update as I go.

In the world of Study Bibles you can pretty much get exactly what you want. There are so many: Chronological, Apologetics, Bibles for fundamentalists, Bibles for teens, women, and men. Heck, my Father has one that is all about the role Faith played in the formation of the U.S.A. I have a few different ones in more formal translations, but missed my NLT Bible. I am not a huge fan of the popular Life Application Study Bible, so after some searching I found this from Tyndale. It is a very good Study Bible. It has all the basics- a concordance, maps, definitions, summaries of the background and authorship of each book, biographies of main characters, verse synopsis, and references to other related verses in the Bible. It is laid out in a common sense way and the font is decent. It has a ton of good information, and checks every box of a good Study Bible. I think it is a great Bible for those at the early to mid-point in their Walk with Christ. The NLT is a very casual "thought for thought" translation that lends itself to easy reading and the study notes are a PERFECT match for this purpose.The reason I gave it 4 stars is that it may be too much of a "by the numbers" Study Bible for some people. As balanced as it is, it brings very little new to any discussion. If you are looking for a more in depth discussion of Theological ideas or if you are a Sunday School teacher this may not be right for you. I intend to use it as my everyday reading Bible, but when I want to investigate an idea more thoroughly I will use my other resources.I am very enthusiastically recommending it, though. You will not find a better Study Bible for overall presentation.

I absolutely love this translation and this particular edition of it. The translation is so clear and easy to read in modern English. It makes you feel like you're really understanding the Bible and its nuances for the first time.For the King James Only people who are skeptical (or outright hostile) to all modern translations, I challenge you to find anything in this Bible that would indicate a bias towards twisting the Word of God. And I challenge you to find any place where there are any meaningful differences in meaning between this and the KJV. There are a few things that are different, but that would be owed to the fact this version was translated from older texts than were available to the King James translators.To those who prefer modern versions, I find the NLT to be in the most pure and clear modern English. Even the NIV has passages that are rendered into somewhat archaic English. Same with the ESV and NASB which are a very solid translations, but too often their translations are rendered into English that's almost unintelligible to today's speakers.As far as this specific edition, it is laid out beautifully. I've read the first five books of the Old Testament in this edition so far, while reading every single footnote and comment. It's a *very slow* way to read the Bible! But your understanding will be so much richer. The notes really add a lot of clarity to the text - especially in the Old Testament. There have been a few notes that I have disagreed with or was skeptical of - but that's to be expected as the footnotes aren't the Word of God. However, I haven't noticed in the cases where I've disagreed with the notes that the translators have made any attempt to mis-translate the actual Biblical text to fit into their footnoted views. If you compare their actual translations on the passages where you may be skeptical of their notes to the KJV or any reputable modern version, you won't find any difference in meaning between them.Their notes aren't the same thing as a "commentary" - which is a good thing in my opinion. The notes mostly add contextual background which make understanding certain passages far easier... especially some of the Old Testament passages.There are two parts to making a good Bible translation. First and foremost is accurately translating the original texts. But just as important - is translating it into the receiver language in a way that accurately conveys the original meaning of the original texts in the new language. If you translated the Bible literally word-for-word it would sound like nonsense in English. The NLT translators have done an excellent job in balancing the fine line between taking the original texts literally and accurately representing the literal meaning into English.

Manly P. Hall was the founder of the Philosophical Research Society. In his lectures and writings, Manly Hall always emphasized the practical aspects of philosophy and religion as they applied to daily living. He restated for modern man those spiritual and ethical doctrines which have given humanity its noblest ideals and most adequate codes of conduct. As I became more and more frustrated with Orthodox Christianity, I felt that the best thing for me to do, is to work on fixing myself, and see where that takes me. I made it a point to not judge others as much, to be more patient, and to really just be a nicer person. Since then, I feel like things are making so much more sense to me. I don't feel wrong for questioning certain things regarding my past beliefs. I feel so much more of a connection to myself, and to God, to everything.In this book, M.P. Hall suggests that the first thing any person on a path to spiritual truth must do is look inside themselves and become more virtuous. If the self is not cleansed, then it will not be possible to be on an enlightened path (the middle way, Spiritual Truth, etc.). It made so much sense when I read that. Let me point out that I am not claiming to be remotely close to becoming enlightened, or that I have fixed all of my faults. But I have been having excellent progress on becoming a better person, and since then, have been much more happy. More things make sense, it's easier to change my opinion based on new information, and I feel like I am finding some truth. I have a long ways to go, probably many lifetimes, but that is ok. When I do read scripture, I can usually find a little bit more meaning in the message than just the literal message itself. I enjoy reading more about Christian scripture, Gnostic, Canonical, and many others such as Hindu. If I can find truth in something, then I will read it now. I've gotten rid of my previous religious dogmas, and look forward to learning about other spiritual beliefs.Hall gives examples of the virtues that one should work on, and why they are important for progressing into the next stage of your journey.He also talks about the different ways to spot a fraudulent adept, and what to look for in one to listen to. Of course, he mentions that you should never take anything anyone says as the ultimate Truth. It should be felt and found from within. Any adept that claims to promise enlightenment, is a fraud, and they should only help guide you to keep you on your path. And this is something that has been ringing true to me as well in some instances.There is much more in this little book, and if you are on a journey of finding truth, and you want some good advice, this would be a good buy for you. Even though Manly P. Hall has much to offer, remember that what he says is not your truth. It can only be found from within. He will even tell you this. Happy journeys.Bradley G.

I am a huge Manly P Hall fan. I listen to his lectures everyday. What a insightful man and very underrated philosopher, theologian and academic. This should be the beginning of your journey into all mysticism, esoteric knowledge, occult and other sacred knowledge. This man spent his life deeply invested into these subjects as well as separating false doctrines with real legitimate ones.This is a great guide to open your eyes. DO NOT DIVE HEADFIRST INTO THE RABBIT HOLE OF THESE TOPICS is probably the biggest message of this book. Be wise about how you approach topics and take most things with a grain of salt.He also explains how to not get involved in cults or invest in false teachers who practice for profit. This book contains many moral lessons. It instructs how to approach esoteric knowledge. The order in which you should learn subject by subject to have a smooth journey into really empowering knowledge.As a man who spent his life researching everything you talks about greatly, I believe this man. You can tell he truly knows what he speaks of.

This short book bu Manly P. Hall lives up to it's title - it definitely is a word to the wise. If you are planning on reading more of his works, or getting into the esoteric field, this book is a good no bull-s*** primer. Manly P. Hall pulls no punches, he has an obvious bias against new age enlightened "Masters" But shouldn't we all - there are so many charlatans in the field, and Manly P. Hall just encourages people not to instantly woooed by someone who "found the light"

This is the best, most legit book on the occult and religion I have ever read. I strongly suggest it to anyone who is interested in teachings of the mystery schools. There are no short cuts on the road to truth, essentially thats the message conveyed here. The journey of self mastery is meant to be a difficult one, and only after self mastery has occurred can a person even begin the much longer journey to ultimate truth. This book resonated with every fiber of my being, it is a timeless treasure and has actually changed my course of action in life. READ THIS BOOK.

I love Manly P. Hall. I found out after reading some of his books that my grandfather who was a 33 degree Mason used to seek his advice. In the last 3 years I have studied metaphysics under Barbara Y. Martin (excellent) who I learned also knew Mr. Hall. As my grandfather had passed before my birth I'm aware of the light given and that this is no coincidence.
