Perfect, no problem. Delivered on time. Thanks.

I've used Insight Books for many many country reviews. This book is no different - very well organized, and well written.

If you are looking for backgrounder on the people, geography, and history of the Dominican Republic and Haiti, this book may fit your needs. As a general travel guide, it misses the mark badly.First, the positives. The book provides 150 pages of concise overview. The history section is particularly successful. With an investment of about 90 minutes of reading, you come away with a reasonable understanding of how these two nations arrived at their modern condition, and in particular why they are quite different from one another. The photography in this section and throughout the book is superb and inspirational. Now, the bad news. As a practical travel guide, information is consistently lacking or just plain wrong. A few examples (there are many more)...1. Want to know what time it is when you arrive in the DR? This book will tell you you're in the Eastern Time zone. (False - you are one hour ahead).2. Want to know how much cash you'll need at the airport? This book correctly informs you of the $10 tourist card you must purchase on arrival but utterly fails to mention the $10 departure tax.3. Want to do a little exploring on the Costa del Coco north of Punta Cana? This book will treat you to purple passages like "the charter meccas are left behind glinting like shiny oyster pearls in the sun...", then toss out the names of a few beaches you could have located on the map, and provide absolutley no additional information. In short, you might find this book useful for some inspiration in planning your trip, but don't expect to rely on it for practical information once you're on site.

I bought this book, not as a travel guide, but as a "coffee-table book" about the country of Haiti. As such, it is FANTASTIC! Sure, there are some typos in this first edition, but the publisher specifically invites readers' contributions & corrections (p. 2) for future editions. The photos in this book are vivid, stunning depictions of life in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. There is an introductory section full of photos & illustrations that covers the history of both nations that comprise Hispaniola, followed by colorful, photo-filled sections on people, language, art, religion, cuisine, sports, flora & fauna, architecture, economy & agriculture, geography & demography by regions of each country (including a wide variety of detailed maps), sites to visit and sights to see. All this comprises the first 344 pages of this marvelous book! Only the last 48 pages are devoted to "Travel Tips" -- trip planning, transportation, places to stay, places to eat, tourist sites, shopping, festivals, excursions, and so forth. Indeed, this is NOT A TRAVEL GUIDE! BUT A MARVELOUS AND DEFINITIVE GUIDE TO THE RICH CULTURE, BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE, AND INTRIGUING HISTORY OF THE ISLAND OF HISPANIOLA it is!!

Review

“What an adventure! From the first page, I was hooked. A heartwarming journey into a wonderful world that I never knew existed until Finn swept me up and brought me there.” - Christopher McDougall, author of NATURAL BORN HEROES and BORN TO RUN“Engaging. The Way of the Runner drops us deep behind lines in the land of the rising sun.” - Newsweek“A great look at Japanese distance running and will provide an interesting read to anyone who wants to know what makes a particular running community tick. If you liked Running With the Kenyans then you will definitely enjoy this.” - Athletics Weekly“It’s a wonderful adventure, and it's not far-fetched at all to liken it to one of Plimpton's escapades, even if Finn seems to be a better runner than Plimpton was a football player. An elegant, well-written pleasure even for readers with no particular interest in foot racing.” - Kirkus Reviews (starred review)“Finn’s explorations of Japanese running culture will be fascinating to anyone who enjoys the sport or is interested in learning about life in Japan.” - Library Journal“Combines great storytelling with immersive research. Finn, a lovely, anxious narrator as he approaches his 40th birthday worried about his race times, discovers how utterly ingrained in the Japanese psyche running is―as a mainstay of both community and psychology. Useful as a fresh perspective on your own running.” - Alexandra Heminsley, author of RUNNING LIKE A GIRL“Brilliant, funny, charming and wise. Finn shines a light on a way of life that puts serious running at the heart of its culture and shows why the way of the runner: the racing and preparation, but also the culture, diet and lifestyle, is really a way of life―one that all of us, runners and non-runners alike should all aspire to.” - Robin Harvie, author of WHY WE RUN

I had high hopes for Finn's book given how little literature in English there is on Japanese distance running but I came away highly disappointed. The subtitle of Finn's book claims that it is a "A Journey into the Fabled World of Japanese Running," however, the author never actually gains access to the top University ekiden teams he moves to Japan to write about. Without access to this "fabled world," Finn sets about writing a memoir about his experience living in the suburbs of Kyoto with his family for six months. Rather than providing insight into the world of competitive Japanese distance running, Finn fills the pages with stories of the culture shock his children faced, the well-known cultural differences between "East" and "West," and the mundane goings-on of his adopted ekiden team. While Finn's writing is clear and easy to read, the content as advertised was grossly lacking.

I really enjoyed Running with Kenians but was totally disappointed with this one. Not too much information about Japan itself or Japanese runners, nothing special about training schedules or nutrition in everyday life. Only general ideas that are wide known. Also too much personal feelings and details about the trip. This information would be more relevant if published on personal Facebook account, but to devote half of the book to personal stories about injury or about difficulties with daughters in school is kind of weird. I have paid to read about Japanese runners and their running traditions but only 25 % of the book is really about these. Kind of wasted time.

I wish he'd gone more into depth on the "marathon monks" of Mt. Hiei. This is more of a travelogue of one guy than a truly in depth focus on the ekiden system of Japanese running. It goes into adequate surface detail of the Japanese corporate relationship with ekiden running but if you want a true history of that sport you should look at other sources. I have not read Mr. Finn's other book about the Kenyan runners yet, so I cannot really compare this work with his other one, but as a standalone piece, this book only gives a taste of Japanese running that the reader may wish to learn more about.

I loved Finn's previous book, Running with the Kenyans. Here he continues his marvelous storytelling style of writing, weaving his story around his travels to Japan. Most of us will not get the opportunity to go to Kenya or to Japan, much less become embedded in the running scene. This will be our only chance to see the running society up close. Finn has his ups and downs in contacting the ekiden running clubs and the running monks. This makes the story even more adventurous as you turn each page to find out if he makes contact despite language barriers and the somewhat closed off manner of the Japanese culture. An added bonus is the candid profile of Japan's most popular marathon runner in the current running era. If you loved Born to Run, you are sure to enjoy Finn's books as he takes you inside the culture as much as introducing the motivations and training of the runners, all in the same enthralling narrative style.

Having read Running with the Kenyans, I wondered how the author would be able to equally capture my imagination in this book. I shouldn't have worried. There is nothing like an Englishman in a foreign land to capture the awkwardness of contrasting cultures.Yet he is also our hero, and we can all at times relate to his travails, as he deals with language barriers, ingrained cultural norms, and kids.A great read for devotees of the pure art of running, as well as those that enjoy travel literature.

I was a big fan of Adharanand Finn's "Running with the Kenyans." I love his immersive style. He moved to the Rift Valley with his family for that one. Here, he troops the entire family -- including three young children -- to the suburbs of Kyoto to explore Japan's Ekiden running culture. Indeed, the book is as much about his family's journey as it is about his deep dive into Ekiden. Let's just say that anyone's romantic ideal of a vacation journey via the Trans-Siberian railway will be put off the idea for good here.I loved the premise of this idea. I've been intrigued with Japanese running since the days of the great Boston marathon champion and long-time 25k and 30k WR holder, Toshihiko Seko. [In fact, if I have one quibble about the book, it's that I wish Finn had sought out Seko for comment...or maybe he did and the famously monkish Seko turned him away.]Finn does well to tie the discipline and struggle of running to the self-professed ideal traits of the Japanese. I like the way he uses Robert Whiting's seminal book, "You Gotta Have Wa." Whiting did much the same thing as Finn, but used baseball as his vehicle. Finn quotes Whiting's work: "The Japanese believe that only through endless training can one achieve the unity of mind and body necessary to excel . . . The traditional view in this rich but cramped and resource-poor land is that nothing comes easily, and that only through doryoku (effort) and the ability to persevere in the face of adversity can one achieve success."Finn finds that the obsessive Ekiden culture fits Japan like hand in glove...the ideas that the nail that is stuck up gets hammered down, and of sacrifice of the individual for the sake of the team. These ideas are steeped deep into Japanese culture. Finn points out that the dominant theme of Manga, Japan's rich graphic novel scene, is not of individual glory and triumph, but rather of personal struggle until our hero learns to become part of the team. That leads to some perverse outcomes in Japanese running. In terms of pure magnitude of good runners, the numbers are shocking. Finn juxtaposes results in Japan and his native UK, noting that "[a] few weeks after I return from Japan, the British half-marathon trials take place...The winner, Scott Overall, runs a time of 64 minutes 44 seconds. On the very same day, in Japan, the national university half-marathon championships take place. The student in that race finishing way back in 100th position runs almost exactly the same time as Overall, the British champion, finishing in a time of 64:47."And, yet: "So yes, they are good. But in the end, the more interesting question was why are they not better? Why, with a highly developed running system unrivalled anywhere in the world, was the winner of the university championships that day, a full hundred places further ahead, only running 62:09? While this is quick, it’s hardly a time to cause even a ripple on the international stage."Finn attributes this outcome to two factors: corporate sponsorship of Ekiden leads to a level of comfort for runners that the Kenyans and Ethiopians just don't have (some of those guys are running to literally put food on the table). And, of course, there's the constant theme of Japanese overwork. The word "Karo'shi" (death from overwork) never makes an appearance here, but its spectre is felt: Finn's book abounds with tales of injury from overwork and brutal coaches whose physical abuse would never be tolerated in most Western societies. One bright light: Finn focuses on a new breed of coaches whose sensitive, emotionally intelligent approach is the new broom sweeping out the old.I bought and read the Kindle version and there's one odd, off-putting note: the editing. Do we really have an editor who does not know the difference between "Its" and "it's" and "affect" and "effect"? It's jarring to read sentences like these two:"Interestingly, in women’s ekiden running, Hakone has the opposite affect.""We stick it in a pot and hang things off it’s three tiny branches."The misuse of "it's" for "its" pops up a dozen or more times. It's a discordant note on an otherwise enjoyable book.

This is the second book I’ve read by Adharanand Finn and is just as brilliant as his first. I really love learning about running and these two books are superb - this one in a very compelling way. Keep them coming!!!!

Actually really good running information to take away and use - worth the read for sure. Good references for form and technique as well

After attempting to read Saucy's "The Case for Progressive Dispensationalism", I found Blaising and Bock much easier reading. It is still moderately difficult and moderately dry, but a much better book. Blaising and Bock did a great job of starting at the ground floor, not requiring readers to employ seminary terminology. They did an especially good job of laying out the history of Dispensational Theology from Darby, Scofield and Moody to Ryrie, Walvoord, and the era of Adrian Rogers. If you have the stomach for serious theology, you might appreciate Progressive Dispensationalism which posits the church in the midst of God's current kingdom without undermining the clear prophecies of Israel's special future as a specially prophesied end-time kingdom. I agree with such theology. One must forgive the writers for a small amount of bias, especially in their loose use in chapter four of the word oikonomia as "dispensation" when they find it convenient, yet translating the same word as stewardship or management as convenience better suits them too. In similar fashion, they apparently say on page 126 that the current dispensation is called a down payment toward the end-time kingdom in Eph 1:13 which passage says nothing of the sort. As with any good book, we separate the useful teaching from those things which have been stretched a bit too far with good intent.

really enjoyed this book! it was very well laid out and helped to explain the progression in dispensational thought since its advent. personally, it was helpful for me to see the connectedness of the various covenants as being progressive historical revelations of God's redemptive plan. despite the accusation by some classic/revised dispensationalists, this book did not present a covenant theology view. the only thing i would like to have seen is more treatment on the specific role of israel in light of the current dispensational epoch. overall, a great read!

I am not a Christian with fanciful theological degrees from one of the acclaimed seminaries. No, I'm strictly a lay believer who loves the Lord and strives to understand His ways and His will. Before coming to this book, I had studied the Bible with more than 30 commentaries and thought I knew something about God's Word. Boy, was I self-deceived.You see, I had never ventured into the area of Biblical Theology (as opposed to Systematic Theology). I had always considered divine covenants to be nothing more than an historical footnote in the history of Israel, with little relevance for today's believer. Thanks to this book I now understand how covenants are probably the most important theme in Holy Scripture. No, you don't need to be a dispensationalist to learn from this book (I'm not one). And don't be fooled by people who harbor strong suscipions about dispensational theology. There's nothing heretic about it's latest iteration, Progressive Dispensationalism. In fact, this book has only a relatively minor chapter on dispensations. Most of the book focuses on two important biblical themes: the covenants and the Kingdom of God.One warning though: If you are a non-scholar like me, you'll probably find this book boring. But push your way through the pages and by the time you get to see how one covenant links to the next before finally arriving at the New Covenant, you will see the glorious redemptive plan of God. And when you get to the final chapter of the book, your soul will be overflowing with praise for the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

This is still one of the key concepts that Christian leaders need to deal with. The view on the street is that the topic is controversial. Yet, it is something the most simple believer deals with every time they try to determine why on earth God would have said what he did in the Bible.

This book is a wonderful addition to the library of anyone interested in the subset of Progressive Dispensationalism. It should be read in conjunction with Ryrie's revised edition of Dispensationalism and Saucey's book on the subject.

Helpful, but not persuasive. A pedantic and anthropomorphic attempt to explain one of God's many mysteries. Better to focus on that which God has consistently revealed about God's desires for the behavior of mankind's heart and mind. However, in fairness to the author, I have to admit that I gave up on the book about half-way through.

consistently adds his philosophical views to interpretation and fails to observe what the text says

This book did a good job of explaining the the Kingdom of God and heaven. Once they did this they then forced a correct understanding of the kingdom into a dispensational framework, thereby doing it an injuctice to their work on the kingdom.

About the Author

Our location in the Wisconsin northwoods helps keep Willow Creek Press off the publishing world's radar. Around here, we're more accustomed to landing walleyes and muskies than big books and authors - events hardly worthy of note in Publisher's Weekly. But, a few years ago we did get noticed with the release of Just Labs, a unique and colorful tribute to Labrador retrievers. The book quickly became a bestseller (now with 500,000 copies in print) and frankly startled us with its success. We were not surprised for long, however, and now an entire line of popular Willow Creek Press titles evokes the myriad joys of dog and cat ownership. Today we are known for high-quality, light-hearted books and the best Just breed calendars in the country.

As a photographer myself I pre-ordered this book with reservation. All to often images of the male nude are presented in an overtly erotic and cliche way which in my opinion detracts from the beauty of the male figure, I was hoping this was not yet another example. When first looking through the pages of Michael Andrew's The Boys of St. Petersburg I was immediately impressed. The Images are beautiful and very well balanced with scenes of St. Petersburg and the young men who live there. The photographs of the young men are at times tender, sensual and also humorous but not overtly erotic. The composition and color of the photos in the book are spot on. Michael Andrew has a keen eye and presents his subjects with dignity and beauty. The design, layout and printing of the book are excellent with many full page images. The only criticism I would offer is one small section of images, shot in a cemetery that seem a bit out of place with the rest of the book. Other than that an excellent work of art.If you are looking for a book presenting the beauty of the male form in a beautiful land look no further and buy The Boys of St. Petersburg .

Disappointing. The images are all technically good. The artist says that he was challenged to go out of his comfort zone, but this book doesn't support the statement. You have some images that are computationally good, nice figure studies. Others, like three guys walking down the street, smoking, have all the charm of a snap shot of three guys walking down the street smoking. Some images of the city left me wondering why they were included. The work is uneven.

No the boys of St Petersburg are not all bundled up in fur coats. Quite to the contrary. Those who insist on full frontal nudity on every page should look elsewhere, but the young men on these pages are often naked, always ingratiating, and usually photographed in refreshingly exotic settings. Those of us who know little about this town can get a dandy little tour, but the beautiful Russian boys naturally dominate. And beautiful they are.

Wow missed opportunity. Wish there were more frontal nudity.

All excellent. Very good quality and variety of content. I recommend it a lot.

they have some good looking young men in St. Petersburg. I really enjoyed this book and recommend this to those who enjoy books of genre.

art itself

I was expecting better photos and better looking models. I have bought other books with better photography...

Strokes of Genius: Federer, Nadal, and the Greatest Match Ever Played, by L. Jon Wertheim

Review

“Imagine a world heavyweight championship fight in a cathedral. Jon Wertheim brings one back to nail-biting-life in Strokes of Genius. His stirring blow-by-blow (and behind the scenes) account of the 2008 collision of Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal in the tennis temple—Wimbledon's Centre Court—illuminates a kingdom changing hands. An engrossing book, Nadal over Federer overseen by Wertheim make an unforgettable trio.”—Bud Collins“... A volume that should appeal to those who care little about tennis. Why? Because it manages to be -- simultaneously -- about achieving greatness at an endeavor, about handling the fame wrought by greatness, about the psychology of friendship and sportsmanship, about the role of sports in societies and about the positives and negatives of intense competition.” —Cleveland Plain-Dealer “Wertheim has not only given that glorious moment in tennis history the precise kind of literary treatment it merits, but he has done more than that. Writing with clarity and superb interpretive insight, conveying a depth of appreciation for both players that few of his peers could equal, building drama across chapter after chapter, Wertheim does a masterful job of allowing all of us to revisit an incomparable occasion . . . Compelling and penetrating . . . An honorable piece of work, one that will appeal across the board to fans, and one that will enhance the landscape of tennis literature.” —TennisChannel.com“Compelling . . . Hardcore tennis fans will revel in Wertheim’s expertise and his proximity to the players and their event; others can’t help but be attracted to a vision of two champions and a rivalry in their prime." — Booklist, starred review“Comprehensive and thoroughly engaging . . . Wertheim’s informative backstories behind the clash itself and the contrasting personalities...should convince readers that this drama-filled and high-quality duel of tennis titans gives the historic 1980 Borg-McEnroe final a well-earned run for its money. Recommended.” — Library Journal “Gripping . . . Wertheim’s involving tone is well suited to the sweep of his project, which successfully reawakens the excitement of one of the greatest encounters in sports history.” — am NewYork

On the surface, Strokes of Genius by Jon Wertheim is an account of the memorable 2008 Wimbledon final between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, the top two players in the world. The contest was immediately cast as the best match ever. That may be true even though this year's final between Federer and Andy Roddick was also excellent. Mr. Wertheim's book goes much deeper than just a replay of the match. We are supplied with interesting background material on both Federer and Nadal. For any tennis fans, this is good stuff. You learn the history of the players, the development of their tennis games, their handling of the emotional side of tennis, their quirks, their strengths, and their weaknesses. You also receive a great deal of insight into life on the pro tennis tour and begin to get a feel for the effort required to reach the top.Wimbledon has always been a place of fascination for me. I have watched the championships whenever possible for years. After reading this book, I believe that I will be better able to understand some of the nuances of what it takes to be a Wimbledon champion. I also know much more now about Federer and Nadal than I did before, and I admire both men for their amazing tennis skills. We happened to be in Paris this past June when the final of the French Open was played. We did not attend the matches the last weekend, but we noticed that there was definitely a buzz around town about the tournament and about Roger and Rafa in particular. Of course, it turned out that Nadal couldn't play, so Federer swept through the tournament for his first French Open title. We watched the championship match in a sports bar in Montmartre, and the French people in the bar seemed to have a real appreciation for Federer. I wish now that Strokes of Genius had been published a little earlier. If I had read the book before watching the French Open final, I would have been even more absorbed by the tennis.I highly recommend Strokes of Genius to any tennis players and to those of you who are simply fans of the game.

I had no idea how you could write a book about one match, but Wertheim made it work. Great read and a match I recall watching fondly in a bar on the beach in Jamaica during my honeymoon after I got sunburned. Relived it serve by serve in this book and the author did not disappoint. Great back story on both players and some very good insight into both of their upbringings. Anyone who watched that match should read this book.

Rating:4 1/2 of 5 stars (excellent)Review:Mention the word "Wimbledon" and even non-tennis fans immediately know that you are talking about one of the most prestigious sporting events of the year. So when the finals pit the top two players at the time playing in a match that some consider the greatest tennis match ever played, it will take on a life of its own. L. Jon Wertheim writes about the match and that life it takes in "Strokes of Genius", a riveting account of the 2008 Wimbledon finals between top ranked Roger Federer and second ranked Rafael Nadal.Just a recap of the play on the court would make a terrific book. It was as even as a match could be, no matter which advanced tennis statistic one wants to use when evaluating the epic battle. While Wertheim's recap was not a shot-by-shot account, there is plenty of description of the action on the court. He writes it in such a detailed and descriptive manner that just like when I was watching the match on TV in 2008, I was getting goose bumps reading about it even though I knew what the outcome would be. I had to take a breath and exhale after reading the passage describing Federer's backhand shot to avoid losing in the fourth set tie-breaker. That describes how good both the match and the writing about the match were.Wertheim mixes in plenty of information and stories on the two tennis legends as well. These stories are well researched and the knowledge he has gained as a writer of tennis at Sports Illustrated is evident. Topics such as the players trying out new rackets, how they handle media requests and their middle-to-upper class upbringing are described in equal parts humor, detail and precision, with a dash of melancholy when appropriate. Some other nuances about the game in general are also included. One of the better passages on tennis came early in the book when he writes that only in tennis do the opponents warm up with each other. Nadal and Federer warmed up for this match by hitting balls to each other. Can you imagine Mariano Rivera throwing batting practice to David Ortiz? Or Tony Romo throwing warm-up passes to Victor Cruz? These stories are mixed into the play by play of the match at various points and this is the only downfall of the book. At times, these seemed to hamper the flow of reading the book. The best analogy to describe them is that they felt like excellent commercials you enjoy during breaks in the telecast of the match. I liked reading them, but would have preferred that they come at the beginning or end of chapters, not in the middle after reading about a fantastic Nadal serve or Federer return.Overall, this is an excellent book that any sports fan will enjoy. This was a match that does become one of those "Where were you when" questions. Reading it will help one relive those great memories.Did I skim?NoPace of the book:Good, despite the switching back and forth between topics.Positives:Many, but the best is the rich prose and style of writing. Wertheim paints a picture on each topic, from the game itself to Nadal's lifestyle (relatively simple for a sports superstar). This was the first book I read by him, although I have read many of his articles in Sports Illustrated and he is an excellent author.Negatives:Only the placement of stories and information on the players and the game. That was covered in the review. Otherwise, there were no negatives in this book.Do I recommend?Yes, especially for tennis fans. I do think, however, that just like the match, this book would attract non-tennis fans for the excellent storytelling and recap of a historic event.

I love reading about Nadal and Federer, who are the two greatest tennis players of all time. The book talks about how they learned the game, how they practice, how they think, and who influenced them. Plus MUCH MORE! It talks about the game of tennis and fills the reader in on what goes on at Wimbledon. It is just so interesting, I was actually sorry when I came to the last page. You will also discover Rafa Nadal's Uncle Tony and love him for how he thinks and what he instilled in Nadal. Totally unique and admirable characters and beyond interesting.

Wertheim somehow seemlessly weaves in the details of the match with a huge amount of information on the participants.Have read this twice now and it was still rewarding upon revisiting.

Review

The Emancipation of Europe's Muslims . . . looks at the largely unnoticed ways in which European governments have begun to integrate Muslims and Muslim organisations into public life. . . . Relying on extensive research and a wide range of interviews, Mr. Laurence has written an original and thought-provoking study. -- The EconomistPerhaps the subtlest and most solidly researched analysis of European policies toward Islam… It is too early to know whether this will defuse the cycle of exclusion and violence entirely, but Laurence establishes firm ground for hope. - Foreign Affairs[A] reference volume on the policies that governments across Western Europe have adopted in their attempts to better integrate Muslim communities … Read [it] and decide for yourself. In the face of changing populations with a sometimes concomitant growth in religious extremism, do host nations clamp down or accommodate? - Washington Times

From the Back Cover

"Jonathan Laurence has written a remarkably accurate and comprehensive study of European Islam that transcends clichés and polemics. He brilliantly elucidates the long-term trends that are transforming the children of migrants into European Muslims, acknowledging the tensions as well as the achievements of the process."--Olivier Roy, European University Institute, Florence"Laurence's book is a splendid comparison of the management of religious--and especially Islamic--conflict in France, Italy, and Germany. Laurence arrays a range of convincing material to show that these countries followed similar pathways in managing their relations with Islam. The book holds out hope that Muslims may eventually be integrated within the political communities of these major European nations."--Sidney G. Tarrow, Cornell University"Laurence has written a brilliantly mature book about a topic that frequently provokes sophomoric exaggeration. The book is remarkable for its practical acumen and comparative-historical depth. The Emancipation of Europe's Muslims is a unique accomplishment. It presents a strong alternative to current so-called common wisdom."--Jytte Klausen, author of The Cartoons That Shook the World"The Emancipation of Europe's Muslims is an intelligent and thoughtful assessment of the changing relations of several European states to Islamic organizations and populations. Drawing on years of interviews with public Islamic leaders and state officials in a number of countries, this book will be a valuable guide at a broad level to the development of state-Islam relations in Western Europe."--John R. Bowen, author of Can Islam Be French?: Pluralism and Pragmatism in a Secularist State
