Reginald Ray's "Secret of the Vajra World" is the second volume of a two volume set put out by Shambhala Publications on Tibetan Buddhism. The other companion book is called "Indestructible Truth." Together, these books present a comprehensive and scholarly overview of Tibetan Buddhism.While these books are very interesting, they present a lot of detail and are difficult to enjoy if you don't already have a good foundation knowledge of the topic. For those who are just starting out, I recommend "Introduction to Tantra" by Lama Yeshe or one of the many other excellent books referred to in some of the reviews below.If you are a serious student of Tibetan Buddhism, these two volumes are an excellent reference. Although I have read them through once, I primarily use them to look up questions that I have or to establish context when I am reading other books on the topic.If you are very new to Tibetan Buddhism and you want something that is much less esoteric or intimidating, then I would consider "The Art of Happiness" by the Dalai Lama. While this is not a book on Tibetan Buddhism as such, it presents a lot of the important principles in a way that is understandable to almost anyone. It is co-authored by Dr. Howard Cutler who is a psychiatrist. I found his commentary helps bridge the gap between East and West for people who are completely new to this worldview.

If you do not already have a firm background in Buddhism and or the Tantric path you might be slightly confused or even disappointed. My husband however loved this book and also part 1.

less academic and more of a conversational writing style. the author provides a uniquely clear synthesis. and yes the title and dust cover art is questionable but the hardcover is much more tasteful.follow this up with the audio training Mahamudra for the Modern World to put it into action. it's just one credit if you use amazon's audible program.

What an amazing book to read and re-read. Many of the books listed in the bibliography are outstanding. You don't have to read Indestructible Truth first, but you probably should as that's an excellent work as well.

Dr. Ray is very knowledgeable about buddhism and is able to speak about it in everyday language without confusion. After trying to understand Buddhism for several years, this book along with volume 1 by Dr. Ray, Indestructible Truth, this book is a treasure.

Reggie is a fantastic writer, and has a western outlook on the tradition of Buddhism, and the practice of meditation. I have found all of his books to be very insightful, and complete.

This is an excellent scholarly presentation, despite the somewhat sensational Kamma sutra cover.It containes many insightful gems and elicited a number of "AH HA!" or "Satori moments" for me, even after my many decades of study and interest in esoteric spirituality.

While I was attracted to this book by the gorgeous graphic design and illustration, I was more than a bit intimidated. As interested as I am in this topic, I assumed this book would be way over my head. At best, I hoped this 2-volume set of 500-page books might replace Hegel's "Phenomenology of Spirit" as my bathroom doorstop.No so. This is a terrific book, even for non-specialists. Ray articulates his goals for this "circumscribed, nontechnical introduction to Tibetan Buddhism" as follows: to "(1) provide an outline to the subject in relatively short compass; (2) not be overly technical or burdened with the myriad details of Tibetan Buddhist history; (3) address the spirituality or "practice" of the tradition, rather than focus primarily on philosophy, dogma, institutional life, or political history; (4) give due attention to the "Practice Lineage" traditions such as the Nyingma and the Kagyu, which are often underplayed in this story; and (5) try to strike a balance between my own Western perspective and that of Tibetans speaking about their own traditions in their own voices." He achieves each of these admirably.Of course, it's not an easy read; this book and its companion are densely packed with information. But most the terminology is layed out in logical sequence, without discontinuity or digressions. This ethereal topic has a strange way of escaping the student's intellectual grasp. Authors in this area use terms (e.g. "emptiness") that -while apparently crystal clear to accomplished meditators- are largely inaccessible to "book students." I understand the teachers' hesitance to reduce Buddhist concepts to abstract defintions, but non-answers like "Zen is three pounds of flax" can be pretty infuriating for the newbee. That's why I was pleasantly surprised to find that Ray just goes ahead and defines terms without a bunch of qualifications.Finally, the author comes up with some really poetic langauage like: "Old Tibet [...] lay close upon the incandescent sea [of the] turbulent burning wisdom of reality."This is a book to study - to be read and re-read.

I wonder what ever happened with her sister and mom.. Maybe that would be answer in part 2..i like both Croix and seek in different ways... Zeek been nothing but nice to sevyn and treated her like a queen I know it's a little weird about his ex but sevyn always told him they just friends so I don't understand why she fought that girl for no reason when she kisses on Croix... Boo is full of it and jazella is stupid for believing in him and choosing his side over her sister... I wonder what is DJ and lena story... I like clips I think he will be good for jazella..

Now I really love the fact that both Sevyn and Jazzy ain't scared to throw them hands and honestly all Trenae's have that in common but that is definitely where they stop. Both if these ladies are inexperienced in the love department. Yes Jazzy is willing to accept it but at what cost. Now Sevyn ain't taking to chances... she getting to the bottom of things the same time. I really hope her and Jazzy get there happy endings cause they both deserve it. I would mind knowing a little bit more about DJ and Lena either. That ending was crazy but I can't wait for part 2!!

I like Trenaeâ€™s writing a lot! She always gives you an intriguing story that has no problem keeping your attention and thatâ€™s what I love most about her stories. I was sucked in from the very beginning. So I love Sevynâ€™s character, I just got annoyed when she acted crazy over Zeek when she said they wasnâ€™t together & it just seems like sheâ€™s very confused and fronting either for Zeek or Croix, Iâ€™m going to need her to figure it out!I want Clips for myself lol! Haha jk but POOR JAZZY! Sheâ€™s just so lost in love itâ€™s sad. Iâ€™m hoping her character will truly go through personal growth, by the time this is all said and done!Canâ€™t wait to see what happens next!

Jazzy really was blinded by her situation with Boo and looked stupid in the end. As much as I wanted to feel sorry for her I just couldn't because she ignored all the signs and accepted every lie. Sevyn was something else but I would prefer her with Croix instead of Zeek. I don't think Zeek is being as truthful as he should be and although Croix can be mean he's a better fit. Jazzy and Sevyn are both in love with the wrong thug and hopefully they'll figure things out. I can only imagine who's responsible for everything that's going down. I can't wait to see how Jazzy handles the information that is now in front of her. #0850

There is also a secondary text where the Old Testament text is changed to harmonize better with the Gospel text.In Feasting on the Word, Year A and the first half of Year B focus on the standard texts. The second half of year B and Year C all use the alternative texts.I have found these to be an excellent resource in fully understanding the text, and particularly appreciate the pastoral focus. In a way it is like listening to four different sermons on the text as you read through. Whenever possible, I have been purchasing the Kindle version, since the regular hardcover edition is in small print.

This series is the very best of Bible study helps for anyone who is interested in the scriptures. Based on the lectionary calendar, it is excellent for both group and solo study, and sermon preparation.If any of this set of books were lost, I would replace them immediately. This volume is my first try at study in the Kindle format. I think I'm going to like it, as I read each week's section in full, highlighting helpful texts. Then, I study my highlights carefully, and soon begin to write. Being an old codger, I still prefer paper books, but this set doesn't add any weight or bulk to my Kindle, so I can work anywhere I happen to be.I would like a full-size keyboard for the Kindle, to keep in my glove compartment or saddlebags; thay would improve the already great experience of owning a Kindle

Love these commentaries and kindle version shows well. Only problem is that the Year A,B,C and Volume number are near impossible to read on the cover view which makes finding which one you need quite the annoying task.

This is a fantastic resource for lectionary preachers. I love the combination of theological, exegetical, pastoral, and homiletical perspectives for each passage. Really great "one stop shop" for preachers who use the Revised Common Lectionary.

This is an excellent Lectionary resource for any minister; great scholarship. It explores the scriptures from many angles,with many authors and will provide more than ample inspiration for some great sermons. I wish a resource of this nature had been available during my 'active' ministry. I bought a copy for two minister friends of mine first; then this copy for myself even though I'm retired. It is probably more than the average Layperson would be seeking; but a full cup for those who want more. I purchased this item through Amazon.

I began using Feasting on the Word a year ago and each volume continues to deliver excellence. Each perspective helps give me something to chew on, it helps jump-start some great ideas to preach on, and I end up knowing so much more about the selected passage than I did before. Plus, God definitely speaks to me through the whole process. Though it is designed to help pastors coordinate their efforts with liturgy preparation, I'm Baptist and I find it to be very compatible with my preaching efforts. I highly recommend Feasting on the Word for any pastor who wants a quick and yet thorough discection of God's word to aid in preaching preparation.

I like this book as it clearly lays out the purpose of Adonai's Feasts listed in Leviticus 23. It shows why they were given and what was their purpose. The diagram of the feasts is the best I have seen. I recommend this book to anyone who has an honest desire to understand the Biblical Feasts. Though Chumney does include Jewish traditions, I am grateful that he calls it out. The problem with other books on this same subject is the reader is left to wonder if the what the writer is saying proceeds from the Bible or from the traditions of man. this book is different because in almost every case Chumney clearly delineates the source from which he is getting his material. This then leaves the reader in a strong position to discern whether he agrees or disagrees with the material presented. One can reference and check if the insights about the Passover truly come from the Bible. If so then you can agree and feel confident you are on Scriptural foundations. I recommend this book to anyone, Jew or Gentile, who wants to understand the Moeds (the Feasts) of the Lord...such as Passover. What was it? Why was it established by G-d? What is its purpose? is the Passover prophetic regarding the Messiah's life, death, burial and resurrection per Isaiah 53? Is it relevent for today for both Jew and Gentile? Those questions are answered.

Nearly twenty years ago, I stumbled upon a single copy of this amazing book in a local area Christian bookstore and was immediately drawn to it's intriguing title. I had never heard of the "Feasts of Messiah"! I continue to devour the riches of Biblical understanding as I read and re-read it repeatedly - underlining pertinent statements of Chumney's - all biblically based - and adding my own thoughts! So much so, in fact, I have had to purchase additional copies over the years of "wear and tear" (just as I did with this most recent purchase)! Chumney opened new doors of study for me that continue to strengthen and enrich my years of further study. As a pastor and teacher, I continue to pass on these understandings wherever I am appointed to serve, for Chumney's work opened truths of the whole Bible to me that I had never been taught before in my previous decades as a Christian.

This book was very informative. I wondered about the Jewish Festivals as a follower of the Messiah Yahshua. This book told me so much about the Festivals and being a follower of the Messiah we should follow the Festivals. This book is the best for an overview of the 7 festivals described in Leviticus 23. I use this book for teaching classes on the Festivals and have found it the most comprehensive book for this purpose. It not only describes the Fesitivals, but gives the historic and prophetic significance of the Festivals. It is easy to read and is an excellent reference.
