I absolutely love this book! Warning - it will absolutely whet your appetite to visit Australia.Several itineraries are presented inside, with options for shortening/lengthening the trip, swapping out legs, and approximate total costs in AUD. Fantinel summarizes each itinerary with what will be covered, and who it is geared toward - i.e. if you're a food/wine lover, nature lover, etc. Much of the content is geared toward solo travel, though Fantinel is quick to note when having a companion would be helpful.The book doesn't go into the history of each area (like a RIck Steves guidebook would), but I actually appreciated that fact. It was nice to just have the facts presented, along with what stands out about each area (i.e. one site being one of the largest seal residences).Fantinel is quick to note which itineraries are best for newbie travelers to Australia, and also shares a lot of link love - to her own and others' blog posts, tourist information sites, and more.She has a very approachable writing voice, and I'm excited to see what else is in the pipeline for her to publish.This book is a quick read, and one that will be invaluable as I dream about making my first trip to Australia a reality.Disclaimer: I received a free copy of the book from the author; I was not required to write a positive review, and have not been compensated for this. The book is a good resource material for first time travellers who have plenty of time to visit Australia and enjoy long driving. It will give you recommendations on how long you should stay in each place, estimated budget and present itineraries based on the kind of activities you prefer. It also gives you options on what other activities to do if you can extend your time or things to opt out if time is short. For someone like me who will be visiting Australia for the 1st time and comes from the other side of the world, it gave me a few of tips on areas I intend to visit and how to plan my itinerary according to my preference and limitation. It would have been great if Tasmania was also included.
I really enjoyed perusing this guide! I'm traveling solo this year, and while I've been figuring out everything on my own so far, it was SO nice to have suggestions laid out for me for my time in Australia. This guide is a quick read that made me more excited about visiting Australia, and Michela Fantinel clearly has the happiness and safety of her readers in mind. The emphasis on itineraries for solo trekkers, and particularly, female-identifying trekkers, was much appreciated. I particularly liked how frequently Michela linked in outside sources that you can explore via Internet connection on your Kindle - her book thus served as a great stepping stone to digging in more deeply into the particular trips and sights that peaked my interest. Michela also invites her readers to get in touch with her throughout the book if you have any questions, which I think is an absolutely fantastic option that you don't get a lot with tour/guidebooks these days! It made me feel like a real person had my back while I was making plans for my time in Australia.Michela includes plenty of suggestions on specific places to stay and specific travel websites to try out for more information on tours/sightseeing, but my one suggestion would be to include more specific suggestions for places to eat along the suggested itineraries. However, I truly can't complain as this book was a source of guidance and comfort to me. Thanks for taking the time to put together such a handy book!
I repeat: DO NOT PURCHASE THIS BOOK unless you like to waste your money. The format is essentially the woman's blog printed and bound--complete with LINKS THAT CANNOT BE LINKED. She didn't even have the decency to research the URLs for the sites she includes to use in their stead. The type size of the font is oversized in order to give the book some heft. If there were a way to rate an item minus stars this would get -10.
It has some useful information but I would not recommend it for several reasons: 1. It is too big. I cannot imagine bring a book of this size with me on my trip. 2. It also appears to be directly produced from a blog post. It is different from any other real guidebooks that I have read so far. 3. The content is very limited given the price. It may be good for planning overall itinerary but provides very little information for specific sites.
Wonderful surprise of a travel guide that is crisp and to the point, accurate and simple to use. Lots of room for your own notes while traveling or planning. Well thought out and detailed, like reading a travel diary.
51 pages of information that I got on the internet in 5 minutes by myself. Truly a scam.
The itinerary is unfortunately comprised of screen prints of pages of hyperlinks, useless in a printed book. This should only be available as an ebook. I will be returning it.
